Alabama was two blocked field goals away from losing to Tennessee. They barley beat Auburn.

Luck plays a factor. The line between division champs and 2nd place is very, very thin.

This is true. Take Auburn as an example. The year they went unbeaten, there was that call for jumping to block the extra point aganst LSU. I understand that call was never made before and has never been made again.

They are playing the opening prime time game of the season. Not a good case for the team being an afterthought.

I'm starting to get the feeling that most people in this thread don't know what the word "afterthought" means...including the OP. They just see another reason to bash Miles.

Les is too damn nice.....And he had a lot of lucky wins.....FL 4th down game was his best....

Les is a fool to let Gary Crowton even hang around this team...It was said when Crowton came here.. It wont be long and LSU will be a 2nd tier team....If something dont change quickly I will just have to take more PSI meds during football season

Just how Florida did after Spurrier left. Things go in waves. We'll be back up in a few years.

Personally, I prefer "nice" over jerk.

I don't why LSU fans feel the need to discredit wins. They can be damn hard to come by as anyone who has followed LSU football knows.

There is a reason 5 of out last 8 coaches were asked to leave. Not enough of those "lucky" wins.

i wonder how many positigers there oculd be w/o miss st throwing on 3rd and goal from the 1/2 yard line, how many would stil be around had georgia not felt like celebrating. how about the arkansas game ? how would another 3 losses have fit the buyout scale ?

Only if we do what Florida did when they went down after Spurrier left...fire the mediocre coach who brought the program down and get a good one.

Back in the day, LSU was notable for a...
1.)strong defense
2.)an imposing home crowd
3.)longest winning streaks in the nation
4.)the team in the west
5.)Saturday nights in Death Valley

Now from those 5 off the top of my head, none of those have lived up or come anywhere close to what they were when we were in the height of the golden era.
1.) our strong defense became soft as a pillow in 08 after pelini left
2.) all opposing teams have to do it get through the first half in the game and Tiger Stadium will start to empty. DOnt believe go watch the ARkansas ame from last year.
3.)Saturday night win streak, ended. OOC win streak, ended. win streak vs top 10 teams, ended.
4.)Alabama emerged in the west nd started kicking butt and we stopped. If we had both kept winning we would have shared the lime light with them, but they took it and earned it all for themselves.
5.)Saturday night in Tiger STadium is now a rare and uncommon thing unless we r playing Ulala.

And I wonder how many people would be bitching if we didn't play Penn State on a shitty field and finished the season 10-3 and ranked in the top 10?
