Have you been paying attention to what Miles has done in the past with his quarter backs, i.e. Jefferson- , Jennings, Harris, etc. Etling has absolutely NO CHANCE

I think most coaches are hesitant to pull their QB starters because not only does take away from their confidence, but it makes them play scared if they are ever inserted back. Quarterbacks can have fragile egos and looking over their shoulders after every tiny mistake can affect their play. Also, the reason they are starting is because they looked better than the backup in spring, summer, and fall practices. (i. e. They are better).

However, Miles pulled Lee for Jefferson at the end of '08. And he pulled Jennings in '14 for Harris who clearly was not ready. So, he's shown that he will, in fact pull the starter, but it has to be pretty extreme. I don't know much about Etling, but I think Miles and co. realizes this could be a special season and if Harris's play puts that in jeopardy, AND they think that Etling is accurate, mature, and a gamer who can move the chains--even if he's not quite as talented as Harris--I think Miles and staff will be more than willing to give him a chance.

That said, I think Harris is going to make tremendous strides and be really good. I think his weight gain--and if they are relatively comfortable with Etling if Harris gets hurt--they are gonna let Harris run a lot more this year. I think his feet--in both the read option--and scrabbling for 1st downs is going to be a huge weapon for our offense. He's gonna run for chunks at a time, but more importantly extend drives.

He benched Jennings for Harris. Twice.

It's really weird that many of the same people who will say Jennings was the worst QB ever are still upset Miles wouldn't bench Harris.

If I am not mistaking Etling did have the longest pass of the spring game. It was on a blown coverage though.

It is the passes over the middle in stride and not hanging receivers out to die that matter more than the long throw to an open ;man.

And I thought Etling did ok in the spring. Showed some poise and ability to run.

There were more reporters crowding around him than around Pistol Pete his freshman season.

so how do you handle the starting QB?

He should have already been subbed the play before he makes a bad throw... -trant

Each of those qbs started as the back up you tool. Exactly 1 year ago the idiots said Jennings would be the starter. I said Harris would be, why? Because he started sooner than any qb at LSU in over 2 decades. He wasn't ready in 14 and it was painfully obvious.

Pay attention, do some research, then join the adult table.

In a list intended to show that Miles would never replace a starting QB, containing only three names, you somehow managed to list two QBs who started in front of guys they had previously backed-up and a third who was himself a starter that got replaced.
How on earth do you list both Anthony Jennings and Brandon Harris as examples of how Miles never replaces a starting quarterback with a backup?

Don't understand why this guy got 43 downvotes. He just asked a very simple question.

Why is this board obsessed with the race and LSU qbs?
No other position does race come up.
