There is no way he could be expected to hit this pitch:

If the catcher can catch it you gotta swing for it with 2 outs and a 3-2 count in the 9th

Definitely. Especially when the count is 3-2 and you can take the walk to bring in tying run. That would be too easy.

I know it's where it crosses the plate, but that does look low.

I didn't see it live. Was it a fastball?

The best hitters in baseball have a .300 average swinging at strikes. What possible outcome could you expect swinging at ball 3 inches off the ground? A swing and a miss - so that fans would say "At least he went down swinging?"

That's absurd baseball logic.

The odds are much better an ump would call THAT pitch ball 4 than if he had to swing and try to put THAT pitch in play.

He did the right thing taking that pitch. It was about as bad a call as you are going to get, and I don't think any disciplined hitter would have gone for it.

He made the right choice, the call was just shitty. Part of the game.

That call was aweful! No way that was a strike. I bet that UMP is from Mississippi

When I was a soph. in HS I got a hit off of a similar pitch. I was benched the next game. He made the right choice, just didn't get the call.
