N La has always been a hot bed, especially when you factor in FBS and FCS, P5 and non-P5.
There's a reason ND and Michigan used to prowl the I-20 corridor regularly. Lou Holtz considered N La a necessary part of his staff's area. Back then only the big of the big (a ND, USC, MI, etc) had the resources to visit what most considered a backwater and compete with NLU, LSU, LaTech, etc. But they did indeed expend those resources.
Even before WM Rebels were well heard of. Even schools like OCS, West Ouachita, Oak Grove, Delta, etc. were getting visited.
Now this whole "area thing" is a two way street. There was a period, not too long ago when LSU didn't pay much interest to the area as a whole. There are others that post on here that would agree with me. Coaches and players would constantly be looking for an LSU face to show up in the locker room at 4:30 on a Friday night or on Tuesday full-contact day. You'd see a Manny Diaz (UT), one or more TCU guys, OM, MSU, Houston, ND even the occasional OU & OSU (OK). And of course Napier or Petitto.
My personal feeling, obviously biased, is that N La didn't stop being "LSU's picking area", LSU stopped picking N La.
I'm no longer that in-tune with the local stuff. But from all that I talk to that still are, it has been corrected. But the door was left open. It is no longer LSU's pick first every single time. However, LSU still does get MOST of the cream of their choosing.
Which means the local bias is still towards LSU on the average. As long as LSU keeps showing the interest, the cream will still want the P&G for the most part. Most of the HS coaches never wavered, even if they were left in the cold for extended periods.

Funny how people arguing South LA act like students and FB recruits really care where the schools located. They care about that LSU brand and Tiger Stadium. They don’t care about your culture as much as you think. They don’t come from all over because Baton Rouge is so awesome and is in south Louisiana. It’s a bonus for sure but not a deal breaker.

IDK man.....lot's of die-hard, in your face LSU fans here in Shreveport who def know how to put Bama fans in their place when necessary.

And it's not our damn fault Bama takes players from here.. what yall want me to do about it??
Make Bama/Saban stop, duh. That's what dem baws from Da South do, they never let players from the da boot go to Bama......
I do find it strange that Bama has ads playing on local Monroe radio, pushing to enroll at Bama. Don't think I have ever heard Arkansas, ole miss, ms state, auburn ads. Bama...I mean Saban is pretty damn strategic at branding in Monroe area.

How bout we just beat them? Maybe that would make it stop. Guess what? Players want to play for a winning program. Not rocket science folks.

You mean winning can influence people?? Hmmm, interesting take
How about beating them and actually recruit heavily up here!! Miles slacked off the last few years and saban hasn't let up.

Step one: beat the Alabama crimson tide.

There’s also way more cowboys fans in south LA than people realize. They’re easily the second team here. You’d think Houston Texans would have a following but no not at all. They might as well not exist.

Yeah, I get pretty sick and tired of all the folks around Baton Rouge slamming us in N. LA saying we aren't LSU fans. Screw you entitled millennial punk youngsters.
Back in the day it was N. LA that carried LSU football.
Kiss my old worn out tired Happy 4th of July arse.
Most of this is manufactured. Obviously, there is pride in different parts of that state regarding high school football, but beyond that, LSU and fans in Baton Rouge love what North Lousiana brings to the table.
The only people who really push the North vs. South angle are Lousiana outsiders.

Brady James is not from Monroe...he is from Minden. Edited: Sorry, was referencing James Britt. My apologies.
