The guy mentions us every time he gets a chance..
Mentioned Foster Moreau played for LSU (after scoring his first NFL touchdown)

Guy was the biggest prick I’ve ever met prior to BCS NC in 2003. So arrogant and full of himself.....threw a fit that people didn’t know who he was (compared to game day crew.). I was embarrassed for him. People are not as you always expect them to be in real life. Hopefully and I’d bet he’s a different guy and has grown up from then but that’s what I remember.

Way to be that guy. SVP is the man and huge advocate of our program so he is swell in my book.

Be what guy?

All he did was tell a personal experience he had with SVP. Are you just looking for propaganda?

It wasn’t just what he said it was more of how he acted. Tropical Isle balcony above Bourbon Street. Was the night before the NC. Chris Fowler gathered the ESPN crew for a party there. I made friends with Sean Salisbury (great guy btw and I used to think he was a douche) ....he was actually hitting on my friends and he and I became buddies so he could try and F my gal pals. But Van Pelt as he walked through the crowd was pissed at everyone because they didn’t know who he was or couldn’t “name” him exactly. Was very childish/immature almost. And I spoke to him later and it was just this arrogance that none of the others had. He was young in career but I really was embarrassed for him then. I got to hang with that entire crew at their little private party that evening. Was fun as frick chatting it up with the entire cast. Dan Patrick is such a stud. Fowler had a stalker....literally some chick. His wife was there and told me about it. Eli Manning was there too with his GF at the time. She was drunk as a skunk and sitting on ground sick. Think he married her. I talked to Eli a bit....he’s one boring soul. Herbstreit was what you’d expect. Cool dude. Corso was like your grandpa and very normal.....good guy. But Van Pelt was very preoccupied with what people thought of him.....and was honestly a real dick to me and others. I fully expect him to read this btw. He’s that aware of what people think about him. Whatever. Don’t be a dick to people Van Pelt.....and honest shite won’t be written. Btw- they are all told to come up with alternative stories and teams to pitch to create fake sports news between each other. But Salisbury is USC Alum and he and I got into it over LSU vs USC and who should really be there.. Everything those people say and who they “pull for” is made up to create talk..... FWIW.

Sorry to hear that. The guy always seems very pro LSU.

As you said, it was early in his career so maybe somewhere between then and now, he saw how he was acting.

He seems like a cool guy now.

But thank you for sharing your experience.

Totally agree. But that’s why I say people aren’t always as they seem. I was completely wrong about Salisbury. And I do bet you’re right and he at some point maybe did recognize it and righted the ship. Seems pro LSU a lot which is fine by me!

16 years is a very long time when you are currently “a man of a certain age”

He is my favorite sports commentator along with Dan Patrick.

FWIW - it is fun to hate on Cowherd but we threw a dinner party and someone brought a date that works in radio. She made me really like the Terd after hearing her talk about him and how much he helped her career path. She was a TD 3 BTW, so he wasn’t in it for the MeToo ments.

It’s hard for me to watch shows in China. If you hate ESPN regular programming, it is the perfect setup. But I make a point to watch SVP sportscenter on the weekends. It is around lunchtime on Sundays. Love watching the highlights and the bad beats.

I met him on Bourbon street the night before the 2011 championship game and had the exact opposite experience.

He took a picture with me and a couple buddies and joked around for a minute and said he hoped we beat bama. Seemed like a genuinely nice guy.

Maybe you and your judgement of him from then are too?

He’s always been a good friend to the Tigas on the national stage.
