That's not a valid argument!! the players or not being paid to play!! they are being paid because they play and have name recognition!! those who don't have these two things will not make much of anything!!

I can see schools cashing in on this but I still think that it would have to be approved somewhere!! But that has nothing to do with Name image or likeness of the individual players and the school will make the money!!
I wouldn’t be surprised if it happens at all but the schools could have already done this barring it is allowed per NCAA and the SEC.

Thank you that goes back to my original statement that this will have to meet the certain uniformity rules

From your own link moron:
Contracts end. They can’t just drop a sponsor at will.
Do you think Zion has the money to walk away from Nike after thendesigned a signature shoe and dumped probably millions into development, design, advertising and promotion?
He’ll get sued for the money Nike will lose not being able to use him to sell said shoe which would be 10s of millions of dollars to hundreds of millions of dollars.

Since you decided to cherry pick the facts you liked not all of those contracts were ended. And there’s an even larger list of basketball players who’ve switched shoe companies despite having signature shoe lines including Steph Curry, Rajon Rondo, Deandre Jordan and others. So not only is your argument a deflection from the point and only supports mine but it’s completely false. Your argument here is that these companies have total control of the players which is exactly what I said lol.

LSU owns the rights to uniforms.

There’s another danger people aren’t even concerned with and that the fact that the NIL has opened the door for cases like 2 in California. 1 is arguing revenue sharing between players and schools and the other is arguing for back pay owed to former players. This is a mess and while it might not completely destroy the sport it will splinter it and unrecognizably change it. There was other legislation introduced that was more sensible but was passed on and it was passed on for a reason. The NIL group isn’t interested in fairness for players it’s about corporate control and power over college sports.

If players had the right to put anything on their jersey, they already would have been. The uniform is the schools jurisdiction.

Should a player be allowed to sell an autograph or have a job like in the lower divisions, sure because they control the product and revenue. But when you enter a third party, completely separate from the school, it becomes the Wild West. Nike can tell player X what to do and say to receive his money and that can conflict or undermine the school without consequence. If you can’t see the problem here you’re blind.

Why would this bother you so much? Who gives AF?

A player has to have one of three things I believe to benifit from this!
1. Alot of Talent
2. Name recognition
3. Marketability
Sure it's a free for all right now but all sponsors will eventually want to see a return on investment

And if it’s about the players why not put pressure on the NFL to change its age restrictions? Look at the regression of college basketball for example. The regular season is irrelevant to the national sports conscious, you won’t find a sports show (TV or syndicated radio) who will spend a block talking about college hoops. This started with the AAU/Shoe companies marriage. Players began getting paid under the table and the sport has been in decline ever since. This is only going to increase now that it’s in the open and it will have a similar effect on college football.

Correct they can but in order for them to do that using LSU facilities or wearing LSU licensed apparel it has to be approved by the school and in some states, Texas for instance, you are not allowed to use a school facilities or apparel to promote anything, including yourself, for monetary purposes.

I would imagine the NCAA has control over that
Posted on 7/8/21 at 7:42 pm to tbabino
Why are people against this?
Every team in every college sport should have multiple logos/sponsors in their jerseys.
This is something that will actually help college sports, unlike the paying of ‘amateur’ athletes bullshite legislation going on right now that will ultimately destroy it.

Which shoe company did Steph Curry leave?
Let me rephrase that, which company do you THINK Curry left?

Lol. A school putting a sponsor on its jerseys has literally nothing to do with individual players being able to profit from their name, image or likeness.
