There is no doubt that Wade’s teams can win close games. But they can’t “close” in the sense that they struggle mightily to close out big leads. This is an elite offensive team. Yet, regardless of venue, opponent or quality of opponent you can almost count on the final 4:00 of the game resting on the razor’s edge. It’s doesn’t matter how good they play up to that point or how poor they play up to that point, the game is going down to the wire. They seem to have an uncanny knack for doing just enough good and just enough bad to make it a nailbiter late. This isn’t and aberration, but a now two year trend.
You have to ABSOLUTELY applaud their toughness to find a way to win close game after close game. That just doesn’t happen either. But this is a good team. You’d hate to see them lose some games they shouldn’t simply because the bounces didn’t go their way late in a game that really shouldn’t be close. When you are the worst defensive team in the Kenpom top 75 that is what is going to happen.

They have a ways to go but let’s be honest about where we are as a program.
Coach Wade inherited one of the absolute worst programs in college basketball. There was no talent, poor facilities and nobody anywhere near the program with any idea of what winning felt like on a consistent basis.
This is his 3rd season. He’s won the SEC, his teams have won 12 straight conference road games, and fans are holding this program to a championship standard.
Pretty incredible. All because of Coach Will Wade

Wade is coaching to have these road games close in the last 6 minutes because he believes out conditioning will take over...
It's a really good article from The Advocate on Friday.

The recipe for the LSU basketball team’s success on the road, especially against Southeastern Conference opposition the past two seasons, is simple.
The goal in the first half is to not dig a hole so big that they can’t climb out of in a hostile environment, hang around as long as possible in the second half, and then bring home the win in what Will Wade calls the “six-minute game.”

“Our guys have a really good way about them,” Wade said. “The way we build our team, build our conditioning and build our belief in the offseason is what helps us pull a lot of these tight games out.”

Game was won/lost at the FT line. Nice to see us take care of business there.

I heard against Florida Wade is going to rappel from the ceiling like Mike used to while Smoke Laval, Brent Scott, and Jason Spadoni lead the crowd in an a cappella version of George Michael’s “Father Figure”

Me and the Carl the Cat will be in our seats early, as these childhood dreams are ushered to fruition.

Do you guys want to sit with me and Tiger Todd?

Gayturds just butt-raped Auburn and they handed us one of our two conference losses here last year.
They won that game last year because White outsmarted WW on under the goal inbound plays. They got 4 easy baskets there and that was the difference in the end IMHO.
WW remembers that, he's referenced it a few times and expect us to be better prepared there. But they are also gonna put pressure on Smart and Mays for 40 minutes cause they as we all see, know that gives us problems. How we handle that will be the real key.

This here is fact S.
Free throws. Free throws. Free throws.
It was with much joy when I watched Ole Miss miss free throw after free throw last night because I knew the Tigers would make theirs.
So glad WW makes it a priority.
I cringe every time when I watch that pre FT dance that Watford does every time he shoots one, but he's gotten waaaaay better since league play and at this point he seems to get a consistent set immediately pre shot.
We won a few last year on free throws too.
Such an important, overlooked part of the game especially for a team that wants to pound the paint.
We will pick up a couple/few more close ones this season if the FT% is high.

We can definitely close and win close but why do every game has to be close why can’t we just blow a team out for once

Top 25 here we come.

Because we go up 10, and then we turn it over a couple times and let them hit back-to-back 3s. It happens like clockwork every game. They need to stop wasting possessions.

Just my opinion, but I think we don't blow people out because we don't have a true point guard and we don't have a serious playmaker. None of our guys are great, but all are very good. Other than Williams and Taylor we don't have a lot of super explosive players. We have a bunch of good athletes. May's, Smart and Watford aren't the fastest players in the world. We don't have a sharp shooter from the outside, but we shoot well enough. Don't forget too that the other teams have players on scholarship ship as well. Everyone loses games.
This team just has a dog mentality. They're all killers. They all play hard as shite and aren't scared of the moment. That's why we are able to win these close games that we win. The ball movement has been better lately. The team is actually starting to play some actual basketball instead of looking like a pick up game.
The early SEC schedule has helped in the 5-0 start. But, if we can continue to improve there's a chance we can be in the thick of the conference race at the end and get a good tourney seed.

Warren Nolan projects us as SEC champs for whatever that’s worth

Nice post..... Smart is not a true PG. I trust the ball in Mays hands more come crunch time. I doubt we win the SEC but am hopeful for a 5-6 seed.

I’m not buying the PG thing because we were the same way last year with Tremont, we hardly blew anyone out

LSU’s schedule is very favorable toward the prospect of winning the SEC, or at least making a serious push.
We perform on the road better than anyone else in the conference and we only play each of the “really good” teams in the conference once.
Should be a fun ride.
