i know the difference between a call strike and a strike out swinging, but when a batter whiffs at a pitched ball, doesn't the ump call him out by raising his fisted hand, and generally he may say "go sit young fella". technically he's being called out. otherwise the ump would make no motion, and say nothing. so Jim is correct.

i agree

this is what happens when there is a free platform and idiots are entitled to their opinions.. it creates a snowball situation and before you know it, there's a firejimhawthorne.com somewhere in the WWW

i for one think that doing a play by play is a pretty difficult job.. seriously, just try it.. watch a football, baseball, or basketball game and mute the TV and try to do it yourself...

if someone on this board can do it and upload to youtube and sound better than JH, i will ban myself from this board...

it will never happen

Having known Jim Hawthorne, I will tell you this: the guy is an egotistical arrogant jerk. I've never somebody get more sense of satisfaction from themselves than him.

Last time I spoke with him in 2010, I mentioned to him about retiring since he is in his mid 60s and he claimed "LSU (broadcasting) wouldn't know what to do without me. They couldn't function." I swear. I was a fan but the arrogance was ridiculous.

-signed every joke about every baseball announcer in the history of the sport.

People used to say the same shite about Harry Carry and Jack Buck.

People are going to hate on him until he's gone. Then they'll forget all the frick ups and put a statue outside TS to honor him for his longevity.

he was making a joke. surely he knows just as we all do, that no matter what job any of us have our employer wouldn't miss a beat if we just up and quit, and hire the next guy in line.

If your talking about football he started in 1983..which would make it 29 if I am not mistaken. Maybe they are counting form when he started with basketball.

I can't do Jim's job.

He can't do mine either.

That doesn't mean he shouldn't attempt to get better at his as I do with mine. Yeah, things happen fast and missing a play or player can happen. But his overall attitude during the games is terrible. Perk up, Jim.

Like hating on Kate Upton, its the "Internet Cool" thing to do on here.

I love Jim Hawthorne. He does a fine job.

I'll never get the disdain for Jim Hawthorne. I love the guy, and I am old enough to remember John Ferguson. I don't think he's a technically superior announcer or anything, but he's also not deserving of the jabs he takes either.
