and has struggled to throw people out at second lately.

Ross is yet to be charged with an error after 24 games. He has thrown out 40% of attempted base stealers (6 out of 15), compared to Chinea who has thrown out NO attempted base stealers (0 out of 4). More telling, opposing teams have ONLY attempted to steal 20 times against LSU, the third lowest in the SEC, because of Ross. Compare that to Alabama which has had the most number of attempted steals against it at 50.

I know.

It's weird how so many Ranters just ignore statistics. Baseball is known for its myriad of statistics yet so many "fans" pretend they don't exist.

Not every catcher on our roster can be like Micah Gibbs.

That's right. Now we have a catcher who actually can throw runners out at a reasonable clip and teams don't green-light their 3 or 4 fastest runners every time they reach base. So yeah, I'll take the guy with a quick, snap release and strong, accurate arm that can keep runners in check. As the bats have been de-tuned the last couple of seasons, it becomes rational to start certain players based on their defensive abilities, especially Catcher, arguably the 2nd most important position on the diamond.

Anybody that would make this comment about Ross and pulling him off the field doesn't understand the value of a catcher. He is the most important defensive position on the field outside of the pitcher. They touch the ball every single pitch among their other responsibilities. They have to be very intelligent.

Wild pitches are charged to the pitcher. Passed balls are charged to the catcher last I checked. For example if a ball lands 2 feet in front of the plate and shoots straight up in the air 10 feet that's the pitcher's fault not the catcher. If a ball is almost impossible to block that's clearly a wild pitch and not a passed ball.

remember what happened last year when ross got hurt, we couldn't hold anyone it became a huge liability. Now it seems like every game Ross guns down a runner trying to steal second which potentially saves a huge inning. Yeah keep ross there keep him near bottom of lineup.

I never question his fielding, and I know it is a very important spot on the field. I am aware of that I played catcher and so do my son. I just thought it would be nice for Ross to hit around 250 not 200. I really think the problem comes when a probram as good as ours does not have a good back up catcher in case something would happen to ross. again this is just a comment and I do hope Ross the best

Having 1 automatic out in the lineup is perfectly fine if it's the catcher. It's not like our lineup is starved for hitting right now.

In SEC games LSU is...

#2 in Batting Average
#1 in Slugging %
#2 in OB%
#3 in runs scored
#2 in hits
#2 in RBIs
#1 in home runs
#1 in total bases
#1 in walks

Taking away a huge defensive piece to try and add some more offense would be taking a step backwards overall. Plus, Ross could just be going through a dry spell, he has never hit this poorly before.

We have 3 backup catchers who all see playing time, dipshit.
