Well, believe it or not, when you’re coaching at a Sun Belt school, you do almost lose games to teams like this.

Well, you shouldn't, really stupid/thoughtless excuse.

Napier is getting the most out of the Ragin Cajuns. Can you imagine how well he’d do with talent like LSU has. All he needs is a good DC and we have some guys.

why does he continually pass up on power 5 offers?

Well, one popular theory is that his endgame has been the LSU job for a while now. I am bookmarking all these “Napier can’t do it” laden threads.

You don’t remember the dynamics of the Saban hire do you. He had gone 6-6 like four times before 9-2 one year then LSU hired him.

You think the Cajuns should never lose a game?

25-5 the last 2.5 years isn’t bad in my opinion.

I really think it’ll be fickle or fickel from Cincinnati. They are #5 now after beating notre dame. They will be in great shape to make the playoff , especially if Texas beats Oklahoma tomorrow morning.

He almost beat Georgia last year and he’s a really good guy , supposedly.
He would be a great hire and I think he would fit in here despite being from the Ohio area .a bunch of The people that are from that area are lsu fans still , even after joe left ,I’m pretty sure.

It would be nice to get a guy that can pull those big lineman that area produces and some of those kids are big burrow fans and would think it’d be cool to play for joes alma mater . I’m speculating that he can recruit in his hometown though. Not positive if he can though , but it makes sense.

Pair those lineman he should be able to recruit from his area , with all the guys we get from Louisiana at the skill positions , the qbs we are starting to pull , and the dbs that we will always get and it could be the perfect storm for big time recruiting classes .

Look at where his teams are best, the line of scrimmage. He had an award winning veteran Oline 2 years ago, lost them all and got better. That’s how you build a sustainable winner, from the inside out.

I didn't say that, I'm saying I don't think Woodward is going to hire a guy who has zero experience of being HC at power five school.

Now apply that standard to every coach ever.

I don’t think so either, but saying that almost losing conference games is some kind of sin is what I don’t understand.

Do you think he's passed on p5 offers because he's been waiting for an opening at LSU?

I wouldn’t hate Fickel. I think hyperfocusing on win percentage & program prestige is a mistake though.

Lots of people here seem to get it & the idea is that you look at the approach, strategy/process, work ethic, perception from peers & other respected professionals in the field, and results in relation to resources.

If we recalled Saban’s record through 5 years at MS the anti-Napier crew would go back in time just to write him off too.

Saban at Toledo

Lost to Central Michigan
Lost to Navy
Close games vs
Ohio
Bowling Green
Northern Illinois

Don’t hire this guy he shouldn’t be having close games and losing to teams like that.

I think he believes in himself and is fine biding his time until an offer comes his way that’s exactly what he wants, assistant pool/program control/etc wise.

Making $2 mil a year gives him the option to not have to jump on the first train out of town.

This 100%

The focus should be hiring the right coach. Name recognition should be irrelevant.

If the guy can coach, is focused and organized and has a history of winning, regardless of school or conference prestige, he should get a look.

Hell, 2 bumbling idiots were able to win titles here. Surely a guy like Fickell or Napier could come in here and do very well.

My choices

1 Kirby…. Defense wins championships/ needs a little more offense . Think about the talent at LSU
2. Fickell…. Defense wins championships…. Again , Imagine what he could do with the talent at LSU
3. Hugh Freeze…… instant game changer…. Too much off the field issues ????
3 Aranda…. Defensive guru…. Will need to hire a proven OC

Top picks for.me

Yeah I’m sure he’ll leave UGA for LSU. Might as well list Saban as your first choice.

1. Kirby - not happening
2. Fickell - good chance
3. Freeze - not happening
4. Aranda - I’m intrigued but not sure how you can include him & not Napier.
