When Mainieri started talking up Hess as a starter, I knew we didn’t have many quality arms. Hess is a Rick Greene type one trick pony worth about two innings. We’re in trouble.

Where do you idiots come from? He had a horrible outing and will, without a doubt, be given plenty more chances as a starter.

As a starter or a closer, if he struggles to throw strikes, like he did tonight, he will not be any good. So how would moving him, after one bad outing, make him better?

Coming on for one inning where he can rock back and fire, he is an intimidating SOB.

Starting and pacing himself is not his game.

THeres a difference throwing quality strikes for 100 pitches a game vs 10. And that plays into your mindset.

And you know all of this based off of his start in 1 game this season?

Ive always been a bit skeptical of whether he’d translate to a starter. Either way it’s something we had/have to try

I thought in the fall someone said he had an elbow issue. Any truth to this?

c'mon man, one game and his first start at that. I trust Mainieri will handle the situation correctly. these early games are for ironing out the wrinkles.

Literally none of that is true.

To the OP: You may be right. However, it's one start. In baseball, that's known as a small sample size. You don't make sweeping judgments off a small sample size.

Did you watch at all last season? This isn't his first start...

Hess will be an average starter at best. He’s a great bullpen pitcher and there is nothing wrong with that. Many of the best relief pitchers in the MLB are failed starters. But for those on here who thought he was going to be the next dominant starter at LSU clearly didn’t see or chose to forget what he did as a starter last year vs what he did as the closer.
