or maybe Miles coached up Saban's players?

and maybe Gundy wasn't a very good coach his first year and had to learn?

I'm just arguing this bull shite that he can't coach just because he's lost some games that everyone else in the country would have lost.

you dont know this with any certainty.

Knowing the facts we know now, this seems plausible to you?

Gundy has proven to be better than Miles, so his 4-7 first year makes it seem fairly obvious the team was shite when handed to him

So Gundy is better than Miles because he eventually won more at the same school immediately after Miles left, but Miles isn't better than Saban even though he won more at the same school immediately after Saban left?

To be clear, I don't believe Miles is better than Saban, but I'm pointing out the flaw in your logic.

I honestly think that if a group of successful coaches at any level sat around in a circle and seriously talked football scheming, formations, zones, techniques, etc that Miles would have a hard time doing so.

I agree, I do not believe that Miles has a very sophisticated football IQ

but I give him credit for being a very good program manager, which I consider to be the greater role of the HC, although I'm aware HCs are judged by wins and losses at the end of the day

Talked with a family friend yesterday that played ball in the SEC. His assessment, FWIW, was not talent or coaching that has been killing LSU in football as of late. It's the lack of senior players in the trenches. Guys bolting for the NFL the past five years has really killed the Tigers when they go up against teams like Alabama that are mostly starting juniors and seniors on their line. Putting freshmen and sophomores up against guys that have four years in the program is asking boys to go up against grown men in most cases.

IMO the lines are the most important positions. How many db's and wr's does LSU need?

The lines get neglected for these positions, then db's and wr's transfer out. How's those top recruiting classes doing now?

Elite recruiter my arse.

I think Miles was a better coach back then

and Saban wasn't the GOAT that he is now

LSU used "3 & done" as a recruiting tactic for a few years. it seems they've stopped that.

Nope. I am using the previous 10 years worth of data, not the 1 following season

Saban was building LSU. Yall can talk about his record at LSU and how it wasn't as good as what CLM did when he took over but there isn't one poster on this website that can say they honestly believe our program would be where it is today had CLM followed Dinardo. No way we have 2 BCS titles...no way!

Before miles got to OSU they had 1 winning season from 1988- until miles was hired. He turned them into a respectable program. You cant do that without being able to coach.

Well when you don't play everyone then yeah.

Just like you don't know with any certainty that LSU would lose to Michigan.

I'm just saying other teams, other coaches don't run that gauntlet. Don't face teams year in and year out that can recruit at a high level.

Look at Meyer. TOSU is not playing the same type of schedule he had to at UF every year.

I disagree.

Yeah he may be stuck in his ways, but the guy knows football. Just watch practice. He's coaching up those boys.

Hell, go back and watch some old call in shows at Oklahoma state. He actually got serious football talk and not some retarded fricks asking about knee braces and Erin Andrews peep hole.

We have the most players drafted in the entire nation over the last 5 years.

Our results:

17
unranked
14
12
2

1/5 years wasnt wasted

To OP:
Miles vs recruit but can't coach is false. LSU 's biggest problem has been recruiting. Sure we get top classed every year but we have not recruited a good team. How good can a team be that does not have anyone on the team that can throw?

The players drafted in 2012 means nothing to recent teams.

In 2013 we were 6th in recruiting and in 2012 we were 18th.
Top 16 finishes while playing in the most talent rich division in cfb isnt wasted.
Only someone thats ignorant to cfb would say a top 15 finish is wasted.

We finish 16th last year. Not 17th.
