If he wants it, is it time to make a decision and give Aranda the Head Coach In Waiting title?

Doing so would likely allow would-be defensive recruits to know Aranda is going to ultimately hire the DC under him that will use similar heady schemes. So, if they like what they see now, they can be assured that will be the style of play all four years for them.

It will also be cause for stellar future DC candidates [who wouldn't want to learn from Aranda] whether they are currently at LSU [Raymond or Busch] or elsewhere. No different than the machine Saban has created bringing in new DC's who quickly and successfully develop.

No. You give that to good coordinators under aging coaches who are expected to retire soon. You don't do it in a head coach's second year

This is so stupid. O is about to get an extension. He will have 5-6 years left. Head coach in waiting is pointless that has never worked out. Maybe Ryan Day could be HCIW for OSU but it is only for a year.

Seriously? What kind of message would that send?

HCIW is used when you have an older coach winding toward retirement. Orgeron is not that old. That would send a mixed message that there is no faith in the HC and plans are in place to replace him.

So he's gonna wait for probably another 3-4 years?

Like O or don't, but he's gonna be here for a while like it or not.

I don’t! I know that he is paid like the top defensive coordinator ( actually paid better) but is he? We aren’t even top 10.

Even if you hate O and expect a change if you name a coach in waiting, that coach falls under all the recruiting rules for a head coach.
