So is it Jim or just sports announcers in general?

"And here's Moses Kiptanui, the 19 year old Kenyan, who turned 20 a few weeks ago." - David Coleman, Track and Field Announcer

"We now have the exactly the same situation as we had at the start of the race, only the opposite." - Murray Walker, Motor Sports Announcer

"It's a partial sellout."- Chip Caray, Baseball Announcer

"The Phillies beat the Cubs today in a doubleheader. That puts another keg in the Cub's coffin." - Jerry Coleman, Baseball Announcer

"Anytime Detroit scores more than 100 points and holds the other team below 100 points they almost always win." - Doug Collins, Basketball Analyst

"Coming on to pitch is Mike Moore, who is six foot one and 212 years old." - Herb Score, Baseball Announcer

Just a few I found.

He corrected himself almost immediately. Hawthorne makes his share of gaffes but that wasn't even close to the top of his list. Remember, he learned his craft from John Ferguson, who was the master of ridiculous calls : "The kick is straight and true and goes off to the right".

Just for the record, I've listened to 100x more LSU sports from Ferguson/Hawthorne than I've ever seen on TV. And I enjoyed every second of it...except some of the loses. But never had a problem with the messengers...

And let me add that this Hawthorne bashing is childish and getting a little old...

Hawthorn calls a great game. I listen to the radio during baseball season more than for any other sport.

I love listening to Jim. I grew up listening to him. It always brings back memories of my younger years.

Is it McMullen or MacMullen?
Jim uses them interchangeably.
It's like he's at a McDonald's drive through.
