As I said earlier, the only defense of his poor performance is to defend his performance. This can't be done

His performance at calling LSU sports is fine. Does he get everything 100% right? No he does not. But who does?

What you fail to understand is that a lot of people like the job he does. Some don't but some do. That's that. /thread

Here is a concept- if you don't like JH, then don't listen!!! I doubt anyone has a loaded gun stuck to your head making you listen- JH is the least of LSU's athletic problems right now

I don't listen to the games because of Jim Hawthorne. I don't like him. As long as he's the LSU broadcast announcer, I won't listen to the games on the radio.

Happy now?

I am not expecting 100%. No, I am not gonna give you a %--but he makes way too many mistakes IMO.

Did I say this? Many people defend him--you think I don't understand that? I just disagree with them.

Well this argument happens on here at least once a week and its the same stuff. Hawthorne haters bash him. People who like him support him. Nothing is going to change about that. If you like him then someone like you coming on here giving reasons not to like him doesn't matter.

Meaning this whole thread is a huge waste of time for everyone.

Fine. So go away.

We will continue to point out Hawthorne's mistakes in this thread.

Mickey, I guess that's where you and I disagree. I do care. I do like to hear a good broadcast. Maybe you can hear one sometime to see what a good one sounds like, and then, you might care..

Are we listening to the same guy? I listen and I always understand what is going on. Some people turn the game on like mid inning and expect JH to know that and immediately give the score.

Hawthorne can't even tell the difference between the center fielder and the left fielder!

i haven't read any of this, and I do agree that JH is gonna be here a long time and he does bleed purple and gold, bla, bla, bla... But, if you want to hear a decent announcer that is accurate, knowledgable, and can even prounounce LSU players names correctly,,, tune in to the UK audio....

again....

Well, regardless of whether JH us OK or not OK, he is calling games for a baseball team that is not OK- these guys are trying to do their North Carolina basketball imitation and miss the big dance

saying popped up and being silent for 15 seconds makes it hard for one to understand what's going on.

typically an announcer will say popped up on the infield, popped up to the outfield, popped out of play, popped up to foul play, etc.

hawthorne just says popped up

I've said this in another thread, and I'm not going to check 9 pages to see if it's been said already:

I'd have ZERO problems with Hawthorne if:

1. he'd stop saying "second sacker"
2. he'd stop calling "Ellick Box Stadium"
3. he'd let Charlie or Kevin or whoever's doing the game with him finish a sentence

And I've taught college courses on sports broadcasting. I can and have done better.
