It seems like it’s been a long time since I’ve seen his name mentioned

As one of the LSU greats

He was awesome with the Dolphins!

I ran into him at a Pembroke Pines Costco 2 years ago. I was wearing LSU gear and he was wearing a Dolphins t-shirt.

Mind you, I am terrible with former athletes/celebrities before 2007, when I was a teen trying to pay attention to players and names. I had no idea who he was.

My mom struck a conversation with him because she was excited to meet an LSU fan that was also a Dolphins “fan.” After a minute or so we parted ways, she told me his name and said he played for the Dolphins.

I told my dad about the interaction, which was followed by an immediate school lesson on how great he was.

Played defensive tackle at LSU and was drafted in the first round in 1977 with the 13th overall pick. Mind you this is the Miami Dolphins from the 70s.

NFL DROY and this game was the one Fins fans remember him for.

He switched from defensive end to inside linebacker in 1980. In the 1982 AFC Championship game, Duhe intercepted Richard Todd three times as the Dolphins defeated the New York Jets 14–0. He returned the third interception 35 yards for a touchdown in the fourth quarter to seal Miami's trip to Super Bowl XVII.

Played DL for us from '73 to '76. Would have to confirm but guessing he made some all-SEC teams and maybe AA. Heckuva player. Wore #77.

Was moved to ILB with the Dolphins and was very popular.

Nice, thanks for the info. Seems like that would be a good LSU trivia question about the 3 picks in AFC championship game.

I was pulling hard for the Dolphins back then because they also had David Woodley at QB. He shared time with Don Strock ("WoodStrock"). He was the youngest QB to start a Super Bowl at the time.

Probably somewhat because LSU wasn’t very good his last 3 seasons, but his only honors were Academic All-SEC.

One of LSU’s best defensive players in the late Charlie Mac years. But the games I remember most were not even of him in an LSU uniform. In the Louisiana HS All Star Game he blocked THREE punts. And of course there was the playoff game as a Dolphin where he intercepted three passes as a linebacker. He was an incredible talent. He will never be forgotten.

This is false. He was an all SEC defensive tackle.

He was also the 13th pick of the NFL draft. So he was damn good!

I met him at a party in Plantation, FL years ago. He totally blew me off as he was there brown nosing people with money looking for a job. I couldn’t help him in that department but I am a die hard Tiger and alum. Last I heard he was working in one of the casino’s down here.

He was from my neck of the woods. He grew up on the same street in Reserve that my uncle lived on. I got to meet him a few times when I was little. That 82 AFC title game was one of the highlights of my life.

All I could find was a site that said he only made the All-Academic team. Do you have a link that shows otherwise?

ETA: I should have dug deeper. I found a list for 1976 showing him as first team All-SEC for AP and UPI.
