I like Hawthorne...I think the people on here get a little ridiculous with their nit-picking about him.
However, your constant white-knighting of Jim is odd and borderline creepy.

What is your opinin of those that constantly bash Jim?

While I appreciate your blind loyalty, Hawthorne is simply horrible. His knowledge of both the game and the players is severely limited.
It is because of listening to other broadcasts that I know most college announcers aren't nearly as incompetent.

Some folks can't listen to radio and understand what is going on no matter who is calling the game, he was spot on as usual.

Jim has done an awesome job the past 30 years. No one is perfect. His family are good caring people. It has been an honor to grow up listening to Jim , Charlie, Kevin, and Doug
Every job looks easy until you actually have to do it without any help.

Or if you don't like that one
"Aaaand he goes down swinging on a called strike 3...."

None of this means shite if he is not good at this current time. Again, loved listening to him all these years. Yes he loves LSU.
He should have retired 3 years ago. Now quit coming up with lame arse things to say about the past for why he should be considered a great pbp guy now.

Why?
He still does fine.
Any not able to follow the game off his broadcast are probably not able to follow a lot of things or maybe it's their time of month.

If someone were to type in Hawthorne's announcing as the BPB (c)(R)(TM) in TD's game threads nobody relying on just that would have a clue what was going on.
Listening to him while watching though is not too bad.
Nice guy, but past his prime.
