I feel like he’s been this all along. He’s extremely limited and doesn’t have a feel for it. It’s just not as evident against CMU or McNeese

Max tries really hard, he just doesn't have IT.

I've not seen a player regress like this in a long long time at LSU.

Yes.

He went on the road and beat Florida in his first start then had a great game and upset Ole Miss last year.

It looked like he could develop into a really good college QB.

This year he just looks lost. Hes shown flashes here and there but overall he’s been just bad this year.

Last night is a good example. We had multiple chances to upset Bama last night. There were 3 or 4 plays where if he just makes a decent throw we likely win.

Yes he has. If Florida 2020 max plays last night we win

Well, the Ole Miss game was just Max throwing to an open Boutte on tons of crossing routes. He wasn’t exactly great or anything. I’ll give you the Florida game though, probably one of his better games as a tiger.

I think it's a combination of his regressing and the coaching staff not putting him in a position to succeed. Peetz is awful.

Don’t know but it sure looks like it. Could be the new offense requires him to account for too many things that are not just playing quarterback.

Yes but he actually was able to get the ball to Boutte on those routes.

He’s not hitting open guys consistently this year.

Like I said, 3 or 4 plays last night could have won the game if he just makes a decent rather than awful throw.

He has major trouble pulling the trigger. He didn't have that last year. He's absolutely regressed.

Max is not good when coverage is solid.

he was very confused at some of Bama's coverage.

He was never great, but he used to be able to hit those ~15 yard between the hash throws that he just wasn't last night. We can argue if this was an o-line thing not letting him do his technique or if he's truly just regressed, but that was the worst showing of his LSU career last night.

One other thing

Last year Max made plays with his legs. And that’s the main reason so many were clamoring for him to be the starter over Myles in the offseason.

But this year he’s shown zero ability to use his legs to get out of trouble and make plays.

If he can’t do that and is not an accurate downfield passer, you really can’t argue that he has not regressed.

He has clearly regressed since the beginning of this season , not just comparing it to the two wins at the end of last season.

Early on LSU was running the ball for 11 yards a game but still was able to put up some points.
Now LSU has found some semblance of running game ,and the passing game has gone to shite. Part of it is missing boutte , but I think more so poor QB play.

Max hasn't been as good since Boutte went out.

Its pretty easy to figure out who was the most dynamic in that situation.

He lost one of the top receivers in the country that accounted for 80% of our offense.

Idk, but he looked BAD last night. Zero pocket awareness.

Max can't anticipate. He can't plant his feet and throw. He progresses slowly. He has a weak arm. He just isn't the long term solution at QB.

Walker Howard will make things very interesting in the spring and summer.

Yep. The Oline play this year has caused him to develop some bad habits which we have not been able to coach out of him (or for all I know they haven't even tried to correct). I have no idea if Jake is a capable QB coach with mechanics, etc.

Max no longer has the feel for the rush/pocket. His backward jump throw can be very inaccurate, and he tends to do this on critical plays. This reduces the chance for success on these plays.

He also doesn't have a good deep ball, and teams have started covering the short/intermediate routes better because of not having to worry about the deep as much. This has taken away some of the space he has to operate as well.

We could talk about the scheme, etc. as well, but the long and short of it is that Max has regressed - there are reasons for it, and they aren't getting corrected.
