Has Grant Delpit hurt his draft stock with performance through first 3 games?

Too many missed/bouncing off tackles. Several blown coverages - not all of them his fault but when you are the leader of the defense and when the defensive unit as a whole (especially “DBU”) has had several lapses this year, it’s negative association regardless.

Those with a more astute eye technically, what do you see as the biggest difference between last year and this year for Delpit. For one he also looks like he needs more weight on him....a bit too lean, which probably helps him cover faster but also the reason why he’s struggled to bring players down at times.

Rooting for the guy. Several more hi profile games coming up in the SEC so a good opportunity for him to rebound.

I think he'll be fine. He's made enough big tackles in his career to show that he can do it. I just hope they don't make a few missed tackles a big issue like they did with greedy last year.

It probably couldn't hurt if he learned to tackle correctly. That hurt Greedy, it could hurt Delpit.

If he would wrap up and not just lay the wood down on the guy. I wouldnt say this yr, per say he seems to have hurt his own stock by showing inconstancy in tackling abilities. Ask Greedy how that stigma cost him in the draft!

a few against Texas? I thought the defense was tired and why don't we give some credit to a player for not getting tackled? This board says Texas had an elite offense so they must have some good players.

I haven’t seen a lot of blown coverages. There was one against Northwestern St for sure. I can’t think of one blown coverage against Texas. The big plays Texas made LSU had a man there but Texas made a better play. That’s not blown coverage that just happens when you play football.

Honestly yes. Not saying he will drop out the first round but his weaknesses on every draft analysis mention his ability to wrap up and tackle. He’s been worse this year than last year in that regard. I am confident he turns it around for the rest of the season.

This is a weakness of his in an otherwise perfect player. NFL scouts already knew about it based on his 18 whiffs last year. He needs to improve on this, and I think he will. It's easily fixable, and it mainly requires a little technique and a lot of concentration.

You're way off base with this. In fact, his stock is going up due to his spectacular coverage this year. I don't know if you noticed, but against Texas, several plays had Delpit walking out to the sideline wide out and checking him man to man. That's not something safeties do. And Texas had so much respect for him they ignored it. Delpit is a unicorn - a safety who has great range, great length, extreme quickness, hips of a cornerback, and makes explosive plays in the running game and against screen passes. Fix the tackling issue and he could be the greatest safety to ever play the game. He's getting drafted high.

How many missed tackles did you see in the NWST game? He missed 2 in the Texas game, albeit one was quite big, and none in the GA Southern game. Can we stop overblowing this like he is playing terribly. We don’t have a roaming safety, especially now that Todd Harris is gone, they trust enough to rush Delpit all the time and leave the safety back there alone. That and the 2 missed tackles are really the only differences I have seen so far.

This. I don’t get why people think that his tackling issues just started against Texas. He has made some great plays and great tackles but he has missed on some as well. What hurt Greedy was people saying he didn’t want to tackle. Delpit wants to tackle it’s just the least effective thing about his game.

Delpit is one of the best open field tacklers in the country. Thats pretty much how he made a name for himself. Just because you've seen him miss on a couple tackles in the first 3 games doesn't mean its time to start talking about his draft status taking a hit. Just like its not wise to start calling Burrow a top 15 pick based off 3 games.

Grant does seem leaner this year. Plenty of big games ahead for him to show his skills.

Read a couple posts up. Delpit has struggled tackling pretty much his whole career. You just choose to see the good ones he does make
