The NCAA requires you to make X hours per year of progress towards your degree to stay eligible. You can't just take random classes to keep a certain GPA.

His major is interdisciplinary studies.

There are no classses that doesn’t go towards his major.

If that’s the case then it’s not a problem with the NCAA at all. It’s purely an internal issue. Unbelievable that LSU can’t find a way to make the credit hours he took fit in his degree path. Isn’t that what “general studies” degrees are for anyway? Change to a general studies degree and then change back to your preferred major next year.

I imagine ID is similar to a general studies degree where you have certain concentrations and you have to have certain hours in each.

Yeah. Houston.

I don't think he has lived in LA while this site has existed.

Yes, there are classes that do not satisfy requirements for his degree. You also have to get three minors as an IS major.

For example, let's say he needs to take ACCT 2001 to get a business minor, but they put him in ACCT 2000, which is the one kinesiology majors have to take (and which half the team takes during intersession). Not saying this is exactly what happened, just an example of what could have happened.

So? That doesn’t mean it isn’t a ton of Gen Ed classes. Basically the only rule is you can’t take MORE than 24 -30 hours in one subject.

Does Emery not know the classes he needs to earn a degree?
Third year and he is as clueless. He better get his degree because pro football is no guarantee.

You must have helped him schedule classes. That is not the "only rule" at all.

Again, the course is FULL of Gen Ed requirements.

There literally isn’t a course that shouldn’t do something to advance his degree.

With Goodwin and Kiner, he is no great loss because he isn't seeing the field unless they aren't healthy.

if his 3 concentrations are psychology, sociology, and poli sci...a geography class may not count towards progress

It's also an Emery issue. He put himself at risk of being ineligible. If it's true, it's an inexcusable mistake by LSU. But it doesn't absolve him from the responsibility of putting himself there in the first place.

Again, the NCAA has rules about this. For obvious reasons, you can't retroactively change majors to remain eligible.

This whole thing is crazy and why I hate this entire organization. Always a clown show, every year. Suspensions by the dozens, ineligible players, high profile kids leaving the program, etc. This is a kindergarten compared to other programs. You think Saban would let his 5* running back be ineligible for a wrong class?

Go look at the course requirements for an interdisciplinary studies degree.

Even if they didn’t count towards his concentration almost any class would count towards his degree.
