re: Hannagriff *and now Moscona* going in dry about Alleva's handling of hire

What was the rush to name O the head coach BEFORE the season even ended?
Alt 26, the "rush" to hire had to do with the NCAA recruiting calendar. Yesterday was the beginning of the period of in-home visits with prospects. This period lasts until mid-December. Established coaching staff in place maximizes these opportunities.

You could have named Orgeron mid week without damaging recruiting, but even then doing your homework and getting the right guy is more important than a week or two in recruiting every single time.
What Joe Alleva pulled this weekend is inexcusable in every sense of the word.

He wasn't even the best option on staff.

Exactly. Unfortunately he was the only option Alleva looked at outside of Herman.

Herman was never coming here, but if he did he would have demanded a clause to let him leave LSU for Texas. That guy was not long term and was a pipe dream.
Major Applewhite as OC is also a pipe dream. Named after a Bama player, wanted to play for Bama, but ended up at Texas where his parents now reside. Being a UT alum, Major is a lock for them as OC.
LSU should have gone after Fleck or insert name other than Herman or Fisher.
But, if Orgeron fails, Aranda appears to be a good fall back.

a good fall back?
if aranda continues on this pace, he will be moving on in 2 to 3 years.

Yeah he'll be in the NFL by the time we go searching for a coach again. Who knows if he even wants to be a head coach? He strikes me a behind the scene mad scientist tactician type

I think Orgeron is on a very short leash. The pressure on him is huge. He loses 4 or more each of the next 2 years, he is gone.

Moscona is saying we went "dumpster diving"

There is no doubt. I hope we don't have to go there but he has about that, a two year window here.

Wrong. Major Applewhite is not allowed on UTs campus. Try again.

The reality is that no matter the hire, proper negotiating should have taken place. It's not rocket science to know what your job is when hiring a coach. JA had enough time to interview ANYONE who put in a resume AND arrange interviews with any potential rising stars in the coaching world. Even if coach O happens to be the best hire, it still reflects poorly on Alleva and his ability to not make a dumpster fire out of ever situation.

Exactly - This says all that needs to be said about Joe Alleva. He's still caving in and taking the easy way out. Never should have been hired.

As a fan of CFB, and from observing other major programs year in and year out. Whenever they decide to pull the trigger, it's done quickly, and the new coach is in, with very little fanfare. Remember UGA last year? Richt, a great coach if judged by W-L, and long time coach, was let go, and within a day or so, new coach in place. No changing their minds. Just pull the trigger, get your person, name him, and move on. More often thank not, that seems like the way it's done. All the pieces are in place before you pull the trigger. But with LSU? First, a total cluster by the leaked Miles firing. Then, announcing he's staying. All while talking with Jimbo agent.
what coach (that has a job) would ever take a position in September at another university? This goes above and beyond breaking proper etiquette in hiring/interviewing coaches with jobs. I will wait for you to name one time this has ever happened.

We will all look back on this hire and compare it to hiring Nick Saban, if I'm being honest.
