He'd be a fantastic hire, but what in the world makes anybody think he'd leave Memphis?
What makes you think Memphis is such a great job?

IDK why you want him to leave who in the hell are we going to get?
I'm an LSU fan first and I think he would be a good hire for LSU. Not homerun splash but good. And Memphis could probably replace him with someone better anyway.

Memphis is a top 15-20 job. That isnt even up for dispute.
they play in one of the nicest arena's in America, pack the house, are located in a hotbed for basketball talent, is the #1 sport at that school, & just joined the best (or one of) confernces for basketball. It's definitely a better gig than LSU for basketball.

He's definitely a better option than Johnny Jones but not really a homerun hire.
Compared to Johnny Jones, who many consider to be the frontrunner, he is a homerun hire in my opinion.

Absolutely. Anyone disputing that doesn't know college basketball. Very winnable conference (even with the move to the Big East), great resources and arena, good/great recruiting base and a well-known basketball school.

Didn't even think of Pastner....would be a good hire. Could put some energy back in the program, and seems like a solid recruiter.

Of all the names mentioned, he was my choice from the get-go!

I was the first to mention Pastner here back in February when Trent was hitting the skids.

IMO.....He's had a rough time getting the past few teams to listen to him. They play a hard schedule but they also play sloppy. It would be a great hire for LSU but he's going to have to do better at getting control of his team.

There is all kinds of basketball talent in Memphis that is all they did up there other than trap.

Pastner
Would probably be the most exciting hire they can make.

I think it would be a realistic hire because I don't think LSU is in a position to hit a homerun.
I don't see a Nicki Caldwell type that is dying to get closer to home.

Kentucky, Syracuse, UNC, Michigan St., Kansas, Ohio State, Duke, Georgetown, UCONN, Indiana, Florida, Pitt, Notre Dame, Nova, Illinois, Texas, Texas A&M, UCLA, Arizona, Stanford,
yeah. i'd aruge that Memphis would be in a battle with a Gonzaga for a 21-25 slot

I have my doubts as to the possibility, but Pastner would be an absolute homerun. His recruiting ties are Houston and Memphis. Baton Rouge is situated nicely between them.
Most criticism of him comes from his on court coaching. However, he is a very young coach and is learning. Even his critics say he has improved by leaps and bounds in the last 3 years.
If I thought this was realistic, he would be my top choice.

let me see
Notre Dame, Villanova, Illinois, Texas, Texas A&M, and Stanford are not above memphis. Pitt probably isnt either.

Memphis > A&M
eta: That was just the craziest one that stood out. Others have pointed out more.
Memphis is a great job. Even better now that it's in the Big East. (soon)

I think it's no longer a step down actually. Pasnter has not come close to keeping up with what Calipari had going. Thus Memphis just doesn't have as great of appeal
