The only reason that kid was given a scholly and is still on the team is because Manure is friends with his Dad. I am sure he is fine young man and tries really hard but he is not SEC Material and has never done anything to show that he is! Call a Spade a Spade. The Kid cannot play at this level.

It's early but yeah, at some point, you have to get better offensive production from short. I'm guessing coach is going have him on a short leash.

Wouldn’t be surprised to see a lineup this week in the midweek games with Mathis at SS and Doughty at 3B. Whether or not it would stick would be highly dependent on whether someone else that can play 2B, steps up to be able to hit the ball.

I think they’ll try some things out this week with the 2 midweek games. Slide Mathis over? I thought I read somewhere that Doughty struggled there defensively in the fall (could be wrong) but maybe he slides over? I know Mainieri said a couple weeks ago Mathis would be a guy they could slide to SS if needed. It’ll be interesting to see what they do if anything at all. Would be huge if Arnold could get back soon and is as good as advertised.

I realized today that Hal Hughes is how a 3rd year starter for LSU. It’s amazing that Mainieri hasn’t been able to find someone better in 3 fricking years.

His defense has been ok his time here, but his batting won't change. It's been like this his whole time at LSU. He's just not a good hitter.

I don't see how keeping him in the lineup can continue to be justified. We have to have someone who can play good enough defense that gives us a better opportunity at the plate. There's no way he should be a starter at a major program like LSU, much less for 3 freaking years.

Smith was hurt and the others went to the draft. It’s not like we didn’t have guys on board.

I agree with this. Hate to see this for the kid but I hold this program to a higher standard. Can't see how he is still in the starting lineup.

Nothing personal, but this guy should not start at a program such as LSU. He is not that good in the field and cannot hit at all. These are the facts, and they are indisputable.

That is so much bullshite. The kid is starting, do you think he is starting because PM likes his parents? This isn't fricking little league little dick.
The hate on this board for 18-21 year old kids is unreal. You guys should take a step back.
Yes Hal has been disappointing at the plate, but we don't have a better choice at this point. Quit being so fricking hateful.

Jesus. No one is saying he’s a shitty person. He’s just a shitty hitter. He’s was the 101st ranked SS and the 500th overall player coming out of high school in 2017. How else would you explain why that kid is on the roster other than Paul knowing his parents?

The fact that Mainieri hasn’t found someone better is kind of why people are getting stale on him. He’s reaching Les levels of stubbornness.

You use the word “fact” and yet you’re completely wrong. We do have a better SS on the roster. He had to have surgery to get a rib removed.

I’m amazed so many people post so confidently about the baseball team when they clearly don’t know anything

I get it about Arnold but we’re in year 3. No way Hughes was brought in to be a 3yr starter. No fricking way.

If you followed the team and recruiting it would be quite obvious. One of those years was due to Smith being injured. We’ve had several shortstops committed. They left for the draft. And yes, if you were the coach, they still would have gone to the draft. We can’t win by recruiting a guy like Hughes and when we recruit better guys, we can’t win because we recruited too good of players. Make up your minds.

So why did he not start at short last year but did the year before? Paul must have been in a fight with the Hughes in 19'. Or maybe he wasn't the best option...
Paul is not playing a player because he likes his dad. Jesus Christ.
As soon as someone else is developed Hughes will become our utility infielder which he will be great at.
