Had Oklahoma State been 12-0 in 2011, is it possible Bama still gets in over them?

No because it wasn’t humans deciding

The human polls were responsible for 2/3 of the BCS formula. If they all had Bama at #2, it would override the computers.

But Bama wouldn't have been No. 2 if Okie State hadn't lost that road game against a mediocre Iowa State team.

Exactly, it was razor thin as it was.

There should have never been a playoff committee, should have used the BCS selection to determine the playoff selections.

Lol. Of course. At least they published who voted for what back then. Now its done behind closed doors. We had several people vote Okie State #4 or lower that year. If you went simply off of Computer Rankings then LSU would have played OSU.

There were a bunch of voters in the human polls who wanted the rematch. I think they would have found a way to get it no matter what.

while this is true using the polls which are human but with far more voters is less likely to be manipulated like a room of 12 ppl in one location are.

Oklahoma State's problem in 2011 is that they were Oklahoma STATE.

Had they been Oklahoma or Texas, they would have played LSU.

Again, college football is not a real competition, it is a pageant where the rules change annually for the benefit of the Tier 1 programs/media darlings.

Remember, 2011 was the last year the slogan "Every Game Counts" was used. In fact, that slogan was immediately removed after a Tier 2 program (LSU) won the "Game of the Century" in Bama's backyard. That wasn't supposed to happen. When it did, CFB again changed the criteria.

Another very valid point. For SEC programs outside of Bama, you MUST win the SECCG to be eligible. Bama can lose their most important HOME games annually, sit at home during championship weekend, and still make the final 2 or final 4.

Just wait until there are 12 teams. Programs like Bama will still get in with 3-4 losses. It is going to be a joke.

This was a hangup for me but I realize Bama gets in just about every year anyway

Bama probably not as Little Nicky didn't have the world sucking his ballsack yet.

But, you never know with the Gumps...

They could have put Bama in over LSU because LSU had inferior QB play and was “outplayed” in their regular season game. Wouldn’t put it past them.

To be fair, Georgia did get in in 2021 despite losing the SECCG, but that's probably because there weren't enough 1-loss P5 champions/G5 undefeateds. Georgia is also a Tier 2 program.

And that results in the best recruits going to said Tier 1 programs, making them better teams anyways. The lower tier you are, the harder it is to go undefeated or even have 1 loss. Plus the fact that you have to be perfect while the anointed teams get more leeway. It's a self-fulfilling prophecy perpetuated by the sports media.
