That’ll get to 97-98 if he stays healthy in a month or two.

I'll use this thread to apologize to the poster that said Jump was the nastiest guy on the staff. He looked really nasty today. I do believe hitters on the LSU team believe that.

LSU hitters only have a 0-3 at bat sample. I think a larger sample size will prove similar results. It's still not determined, though.

I stand by Holman being a complete mess for hitters.

Sat 95-96

It was opening day, and I'm sure he was pumped up and full of adrenaline for his 1st time pitching in an LSU uniform in front of an Alex Box crowd. But if they can get hi stretched out to where he can sit there for multiple innings, holy shite. And his delivery kind of hides the ball a bit and it explodes out of his hand. I think it plays even faster than it actually is. And I'm pretty sure I detected an arm side run that will be devastating against right-handed hitters.

I don't know his mental makeup, and there's obviously some concerns with his back, but if that dude can stay healthy and build up into being able to be a weekend starter, that would make us really tough to beat in a 3 game series. It may take a while to get to that point, but our best weekend rotation might wind up being Jump/Holman/Hurd. And that rotation plays. Big time.

I've also noticed Hunt Palmer kinda quietly alluding to the "guys in the building" (i.e. coaches and players) thinking he has the best stuff on the staff, and it might not be particularly close. Of course, that's assuming (big assumption) that he not only remains healthy, but his health progresses fast enough that they're able to ramp him up into that role in time for SEC play and the postseason. But at his best, he's a game changer, and I'd have to believe they're gonna be pretty conservative with him the 1st part of the season to put him in the best spot to be at his best down the stretch.

Not sure it’s a secret. Johnson talks about him all the time. You can tell he had major FOMO when he picked UCLA over AZ out of high school.

Jump was one of those kids that wasn’t supposed to make it to campus. Very highly rated

I saw him pitch 4 months ago in a fall scrimmage in October hit 95 the whole inning he pitched.

I think there’s credence to a small injury recently. I think it has more to do with treating him with kids gloves vs having to ramp up. He came out in the spring & was pushing past that 1 inning mark in multiple appearances.

He came out of the dugout pretty early in the game and went into the indoor facility where he spent over an hour. Maybe stretching or loosening up.

When he came out he went to sit on the bullpen bench but before he sat he put on a wide back brace type belt and kept it on until he started tossing. So it definitely looks like a minor issue with his back from the outside looking in.

I know it’s just one start, but I don’t look for Hurd to be a weekend starter for too long. He has been phenomenal coming out of the pen in high pressure situations and getting through a line up twice.
I really think he needs another well commanded pitch to be a starter.
The fastball and curve just aren’t going to cut it as a starter imo. I wouldn’t be shocked at all to see a couple young lefties to press for the role as well as Coleman.

Oh, and Jump looked like he was born to pitch out there.

That 96mph lefty laser beam to the top outside corner was one of the most beautiful pitches I’ve ever see.

I remember in CJJ's first season we had a huge shortage of left handed pitching. Now we have Ack, Loer, Herring, Jump, Coleman, Anderson, Johnson, Bronzini, and Primeaux. Not to forget that Brown could pitch if needed.

Left handed pitching could be our strength, relatively speaking. We will have a lot of arms for situational pitching matchups. We can conceivably go all weekend without the other team seeing the same pitcher twice.

With that stable of lefties, we could pitch an entire weekend series without using a right handed pitcher.
