Guice should have had 100 yards receiving last night.

Just on damn check downs. Can we please for the love of god get a QB that can run through his progressions. Why is it so hard for us to find a competent QB. It can’t be the actual coaching anymore, it has to be something missing in talent evaluation.

i dont think you know how progressions work

if Chark has 3 steps on the defender 30 yards down field, you never get to that last progression which was Guice in the flat. You throw it to the guy wide open down field

Eventually when your QB has shown all year he doesn’t have the arm to complete that throw you start using that route as a diversion and hit the easier throw.

Guice is a great receiver! Forget progression, design plays for him to catch ball!

Thank you, Lester.

I've been shaking my head at all these posters that have harped on the play early in the game where Guice was uncovered. The first read on that play, Chark was running well past the cornerback. The read was correct, the throw was suspect.

Can't run through progressions with a herd of elephants charging in at you with nothing to slow them down.
Now Shut Up!

This is the absolute truth. Stretch the field, and give the flat room to run

It’s not that one play. Bama left the check down uncovered all night because they know Etling never goes to it. He throws to his primary come hell or fricking high water. The plays last night were beautifully designed but we only execute a 1/3 of what is capable.

our RBs had 7 catches combined last night. It wasnt open all night, because several times they were tackled immediately

You’re an idiot. Etling to my astonishment had tons of time to throw last night. Oline pass blocked like beasts. We did not get beat in the trenches.

No not SHUT UP!

Quick passes over middle (to running backs) behind the rush tends to slow down the rush.

Ok. Just 80 to 90 percent of the time. It’s a huge part of out talent that is underutilized.

This is correct but you are also overlooking another factor to this situation. If Etling could read a defense properly presnap, he would have known from the defensive alignment that Guice would have been uncovered right off the bat. The deep ball to Chark took a few seconds to develop. Had he read the defense correctly presnap, his first read immediately becomes Guice out of the backfield.

they had 7 catches for 36 yards, how do you deem that open 90% of the time?

Id have to watch it again. More than likely it was a busted coverage though, which makes that hard to anticipate.

Only problem is DE underthows the deep ball all the time.

Etling has proven that he cannot throw the deep ball well. If a receiver has a few steps on the db, its pretty much a guarantee that the receiver will have to come to a dead stop just to have a chance to catch it.

It could have been a busted coverage but if I remember correctly, Alabama blitzed an extra defender on the play, leaving Guice unaccounted for. This is also why Chark had one on one coverage against him with a single high safety over top.
