We should have known from the start this season was going to be a wash.

MM was hired with zero players and the looming threat of an NCAA penalty over the program. It’s tough to get quality recruits and transfers in that situation. The fact of the matter is that our expectations were high because of the success we saw with WW. We should have known from how close most of our non conference games were that the SEC was going to be rough.

The only bright side of this program is that some of our younger players have shown potential. It’s in the air as to whether MM can develop them and produce quality SEC teams. We will see.

Wow what a new take but thanks for showing everyone your lack of knowledge of sports and even remotely close to a rational thought.

Jalen Reed is highly athletic and can push the tempo very well in transition after getting a rebound. For a player of his size, he’s shown an ability to handle the ball decently well. He even hit a three in a non conference game earlier in the year. He needs to work on his ability to finish around the rim, but the potential is there for sure.

Tyrell has shown comfort handling the ball and a desire to both shoot and attack the rim. He makes a good bit of mistakes but the potential is there for him to be a solid 10+ppg scorer from three levels in the future.

Justice Williams has shown his ability to handle the ball, finish difficult layups, and has shown flashes of ability to shoot. His length and athleticism give him an edge on defense against other guards. With more time he can be a good on ball scoring threat and playmaker. Bear in mind he should be a freshman right now; he skipped a year of school. His freshman year in college should have been his senior year of high school.

He brought in decent players(so we thought). Great at Murray St which aint the SEC. Then you have Miller who stayed from the previous regime that shoots 25% even its at the free throw line and you have the shite show that is going on now

Missouri had nearly the same issue as lsu. Their new coach brought in a bunch of small school guys and are contending for the tournament. It can be done. Some is coaching and some is talent evaluation.

This is my entire point. The players we have aren’t up to the standard of the rosters of the rest of the SEC. Our recruits (Ward, Reed, Phillips) have shown immense potential but need time to develop. KJ Williams, Fountain, and Hayes are the only players I’d say are good enough right now for the SEC. Justice W has potential to be great but he’s still extremely young.

Miller was regarded highly because WW spoke highly of him prior to his injury. The truth is, he wasn’t that good at Illinois and it honestly shouldn’t be surprising that he’s playing the way he is now.

Do you even know what this term means? They have shown nothing close to "immense potential" and its laughable to even have that take.

There has been nothing this season or in recruiting that is pointing to us bouncing back next year.

If you think Jalen Reed and Ward don’t have immense potential then you’re just blind

I’d be ok with giving MM time if he showed any signs of improving in recruiting or the portal, but he hasn’t.

I don’t even blame him, but he’s obviously in over his head and Scott should never have hired him.

I think this might be the case for sure. Only time will tell.

I’m not denying in any of my posts that MM is a bad coach, all I’m saying is that you have to acknowledge the level of difficulty of the situation he inherited and recognize that this year isn’t a true indicator of his ability as a coach. The off-season and next year will give us the true answers.

True, but this year is affecting his ability to recruit the level of talent necessary to improve. It’s almost at a toxic level for recruiting. He might be in a no-win situation.

I’m not denying that either. But can you seriously expect someone to compete in the SEC when he inherited a roster with ZERO players and had the potential death penalty looming over the program?? Be real. Some people on here are straight up delusional expecting MM to pull a miracle out of thin air.

So you think a super athletic 6’10 forward with handles has no potential? Just tell me you don’t understand basketball.

There are no more victories but at least the team played hard for 40 minutes today. They haven't given up and most of them are playing to the best of their physical limitations.... Maybe with the exception of Miller. Miller can be a really good SEC player.... He's just going to have to refocus and put this season in the rearview once it ends. Have a short-term memory and come back and be the study he can be. A little more help on the perimeter and he won't have a Target on his back like he has all season
