Because he’s a selfish boy that’s giving up on his team. College football is about the team and this is going to set a turrible standard in college football. There will be more and I hope the NFL sees this as a weakness for all that do it. Being a good person is not always the easiest or safest, but most still do it. Why? Because it’s the right thing to do. Let’s not live because we might die! Fire away idiots, but it shows your character. If you’re not in the playoffs, we all sit out. Smh! Have some pride for yourself and your team!
It's easy to be self righteous when it's not your money you are risking. If you think that an NFL team will think twice about drafting him because he made a good decision to not risk his health and future on a meaningless Bowl game then you are very very wrong.

Bowl games, especially since the playoff structure, are meaningless, especially for Greedy. This is a logical move, and a fine one at that. Hats off to him, a great Tiger season and a 1st Round Draft spot. Not bad at all.
Exactly.
People are clinging to ancient history with all this: “Oooh!!! We’re in a NY6 bowl!”
This is the playoff era.
If you’re not in the playoffs, you’re playing in an exhibition game.

I am fine. Someone has to express the anger over what Greedy has done. There are plenty of Greedy dick suckers expressing their opinions that this shite is no big deal. It is a big deal and perhaps if players were treated to the response they deserve for quitting their teams there would be less of it. There is a line that has been crossed when players decide that they are the ones who are in charge. Deciding as a player that some games are meaningless because they aren't playing for the national championship sure cuts out a lot of games. This cannot be allowed to take hold or the sport itself is over. Those who wish to push the envelope need to be treated with the disrespect THEY are showing for the sport from their own selfishness.

It is what it is. He is not the first, last or only top 10 drafted rated player whose team is playing in a non championship bowl game. 99% of those have gone into battle with their team without thinking twice. He made the decision he did and will have to live with it.
It isn't for us to judge. I will be interested in how the NFL evaluation is impacted by this. Time will tell.

I hope more players continue to do this. The school is making the money, why get potentially get hurt which could effect your draft and your future earnings.
Anyone who is mad that he is not playing should grow their stupid asses up. It's a business. Keep this same type of animus when a kid wants to transfer and the blocks his school of choice...

The college platform put players like Greedy on the platform he is on. He was a 3 star HS prospect and has the opportunity to play at the highest level and get paid. The real losers are the kids like Greedy that will play there last snap on Jan 1 and have to find work outside of football. Those kids got screwed.
It is a business. Let's pay them what minor league baseball players make or CFL/Arena football players make and remove the scholarship, housing, and meal benefits. The taxes won't be much and they can start learning about the real world 101.
Sound good?

I hope you are holding your breath for Greedy to fall.
8 of the teams picking in the top 10 will be taking defensive players. He's the best CB on the board. He won't go outside of the top 10 and skipping this bowl game will have zero effect on him being drafted.

The team really could use Devin White next year. Will you toot against him when he leaves as a junior?
If not, what's the difference in logic?
Moronic!!! Football is played in seasons. You aren't a quitter if you never freaking join the team next year. Next year it is the same school but a different team.

Ya know. I get the argument that the bowl game is meaningless and therefore, he doesn't want to risk injury and kill his NFL chances.
But, frankly, that also applied to every game after the Bama game. Why play in any of those?

You know the main reason many of these kids even go to college is to get into the NFL. Many have very little chance otherwise to succeed in another profession, let alone be a multi millionaire.
If you've pretty much accomplished that beyond a reasonable doubt why risk it? You've achieved your ultimate goal. The risk of playing far outweighs the potential reward, even if that risk is miniscule.
I see it the same as an engineering student getting offered an elite position before they even take their last final, only knowing that if they fail their final that offer will be pulled. What's the point of taking the final?

Devin White says frick you!

quote:You could probably name about 1 player in 100,000 who may have gotten hurt enough to damage his future career in the NFL by playing in a bowl game (not something like an ankle sprain, for instance). The risk is about the same as driving a car and getting in a wreck and getting hurt. do we put Greedy on ice until draft day and not let him out of the house?

Some idiots ruin everything good in this world!
-First it was awesome to get in a bowl.
-Then it was only awesome if it was a good bowl.
-Now it's playoffs or bust.
Something needs to change in the minds of some of these entitled athletes and in the structure of college football all together (Used to seem so pure and innocent illustrating all the faults of the NFL). I guess nothing gold can stay!

If you had the winning lottery ticket worth millions of dollars and you weren't allowed to cash it for a few weeks. Would you carry it around, leave it on your kitchen counter, leave it on the seat of your car? I would put it in a safe deposit box. I'm not taking a chance no matter how small that it will get lost or stolen. He has one chance to make generational money its not selfish its smart.

Just plain stupid.
So, you would be OK with Greedy (and others) deciding to sit out of nonconference games during the season?
