Of all time when we win the National Championship, I don't think there has been another team in history that has played the team's ranked when we played them !!! I hope they discuss this national but I'm sure they will find reason why we won't

Where will the committee rank the winner of this game?

Sort of mixing metaphors with those rankings.

e.g., Alabama was #1 Coaches, #2 AP but only #3 in the CFP.
IIRC, the Bama game was the 1st matchup ever between a #1 Coaches and #1 AP

This is not even close to the greatest team of all time. Clyde would have been the third string back on some of those Miami teams. And barely any of our front seven would have started. I’m fairly confident we would man the QB position, though.

quote:

What else can you say about a team that had Willis McGahee as arguably its third-best running back, behind Clinton Portis and Frank Gore? Ken Dorsey could distribute the ball to players like Andre Johnson and Jeremy Shockey while keeping his jersey clean behind offensive tackles Bryant McKinnie and Joaquin Gonzalez. The defense stacked up players like Vince Wilfork, Jerome McDougle, Jonathan Vilma, Phillip Buchanan and Ed Reed

1971 Nebraska:
quote:

Nebraska, Oklahoma, Colorado and Alabama finished 1-2-3-4 that season, which meant the Huskers defeated the next three in the final poll, routing two of them.

Greatest teams of all time 24/7

1958! Tigers are great but the 58 Tigers were better!

2011 team had a better season than this one. They beat the National Champion, Rose bowl champion, and The Orange Bowl Champions and also beat Arkansas and Georgia that finished #5 and #15 in the final rankings.

It’s hard to feel any team with Jordan Jefferson at qb as being an all time team.

bullshite!

Miami's lead back was Clinton Portis 1200 yards rushing (5.5 YPC) 10 TD's 12 receptions for 125 yards.

Clyde (1290 yards so far) averaged 6.5 YPC with 16 TDs and 50 receptions against better competition.

As good as Andre Johnson was, he may have been the 3rd best receiver on this LSU team. The only offensive players on those 2001-2002 Miami teams that were clearly better than players on this LSU team were Bryant McKinnie and Jeremy Shockey. On defense, Miami was better on the DL but I think LSU's LB's and corners are better. Rolle, Buchanon and Rumph were all 1st rounders but the latter two were overrated. Gotta give Miami the edge at S. Grant Delpit won the Thorpe Award but Ed Reed is probably the greatest safety in in NFL history.

I get what you are saying but they were an Oklahoma State missed field goal away from being the national champion and adding the national runner up and Sugar Bowl Champion to the list of teams they beat. That team would have gone down as one of the best teams of all time.

Andre Jonson:

7× Pro Bowl (2004, 2006, 2008–2010, 2012, 2013)
2× First-team All-Pro (2008, 2009)
2× Second-team All-Pro (2006, 2012)
2× NFL receptions leader (2006, 2008)
2× NFL receiving yards leader (2008, 2009

Please tell me you’re joking.

Andre Johnson (College Stats 3 seasons)
92 Receptions 1,831 yards 20 TD's

Justin Jefferson (2019)
88 Receptions 1,207 yards 14 TD's

Ja'Maar Chase (2019)
73 Receptions 1,498 Yards (18 TD's)

Please tell me you understand that we are comparing 2001-2002 Miami to 2019 LSU. Jefferson has 50 more catches, more yards and the same TD's in the last 2 seasons than Johnson had in his 3 year feast on the Big East. Chase already has more catches and TD's than Johnson and should eclipse him in yardage in the 1st quarter this Saturday and he's only a sophomore.

This LSU squad is very talented, but the 2001-02 canes was men amongst boyz..... Probably the most talented team ever in college football.... the amount of NFL talent they had in those few years was insane.... But if LSU wins the natty this year I think the argument CAN be made

I absolutely love the comparison of NFL stats to NCAA stats.

So by your logic....

1. Josh Reed was one of the worst college receivers ever.

2. Tom Brady was the best collage QB in the history of the sport.

3. Oh and Kurt Warner was also one of the best collage QB’s ever.

Andre Johnson was one of the greatest PRO receivers in the modern era, he was not however a similarly dominant college receiver by the only measurable, stats.

This conversation is about the best college team ever. Let’s keep it there. If you can’t bring those stats, they may not be relevant.

What on earth do any of those things have to do with college football achievements?
Some of you guys just cant see the forest for the trees.

Your so caught up wanting to argue rather than admit this team has the CHANCE to put its name up there with the best ever AT THIS LEVEL! NFL accomplishments have zero relevance and cannot be judged for many years to come. Let's keep it in the ballpark shall we?

No they did not and that schedule you’re saying was the big difference maker and some say was the toughest ever wasn’t even top 5 that season. That team faced 3 top 10 opponents and lost to one of them this team has already beat 5 with a chance to beat 7. In 2011 we faced 4 SEC teams that combined for 5 total conf wins the entire season. In fact 5 of our 8 SEC opponents in 2011 finished below .500 with Auburn going 4-4. That 2011 schedule ranks 39th among LSUs toughest schedules of alltime and 14th since 1970 so this story that it was some alltime difficult schedule is just another Rant myth. This team/season is better and 2011 isn’t even 2nd place. The 03 team was just as good if not better on D and special teams but 10x better on offense.
