Local media reported extensively on the Drake Davis stuff and knew about the girlfriend, what they didn’t know was the Ausberry stuff and the involvement of the Sell’s. USA Today only knew that because the girl went to them with the story.
That’s not willful ignorance by local media. They hit a dead end on the story until the girl came forward about it this week.

yea, let's always blame the media for everything.

What job was there to be done? Were reporters just supposed to just start going up to random females and asking them if they had been beaten by their boyfriend until one of them said yes?

He's a journalism professor who writes on all topics pertaining to LSU whenever the mood strikes him. He could have just as easily written about this as the new LSU football ops center. He chose not to.
