The stats speak volumes yes. The biggest issue id have as a coach(thank God im retired from the game) is the team's lack of "sense of urgency". We have no fight. Its been like this for a while. It filters through from the coaches to the players. It was so bad last night that if you really look at how we scored in the 1st inning, if LR had executed on defense we only would have had maybe 1 run in 9 innings. 1. Thats an in-house problem. We have all seen these guys rake at one time or another, then just nothing at the plate 1 thru 9. This has happened over and over and over.. Something has affected our team mentally/emotionally this year. This is an in-house problem and has been. Its too late for Jay to fix it this year.

I m baffled at our inability to throw strikes. Let the opposing team have one good at bat and it frustrates our pitchers to no end, they just fall to pieces.

We need a new sports psychologist(s) for this team. The players are all head cases and cannot seem to breathe or relax at the plate or on the mound. They can’t seem to handle pressure very well at times.

How on the world did this awful LSU team ever get to be ranked number 1, become a national seed, a favorite to win the natty and finish at the top of the SEC?

Reading this board, you would think LSU was UALR.

In the 3rd and 8th, ALR scored 8 runs on 3 hits. This is what this game should be remembered for. I know the 8th inning would have been handled differently if Jay thought we had a chance. But it wasn't like he had some nobodies in there. He had guys pitching that we need to be able to count on.

Because we have two studs starting, after that it is a cluster Frick. Our bats have been inconsistent to bad, especially on the road. They were ranked high because the sec was way overrated and it is showing up.

Obviously "Our pitching has been suspect all year" is an exageration since two of our pitchers are near tops in the nation, but the number of times we have had a pitcher walk back-to-back or near back-to-back batters with pitches that are not competitive feels staggering.

It seems like when it comes to strikes, "good" balls (i.e, balls that the crowd thinks should have been called a strike and could have reasonably expected to generate a swing), and just plain terrible pitches not near the intended location, we have had a glaring number of the latter from pitchers that were expected to be major contributers this season.

Bottom line: We must not give up free passes tonight and we have to be patient at the plate & barrel up the baseballs against a depleted pitching staff.

We have been too patient. Last night, I saw quite a few grooved fastballs we just watched.

That needs to be investigated. Something is going on.

Agreed. I’ve forwarded the box score to the authorities.

With the pitching last night if I were Yesie I would just call off speed or fastball, no location. Fastball or breaking ball and try to hit the strike zone. Calling location is too much for that crew.

1. Bad result?
a. Coaches are bad, proceed to (2)
b. No leadership, proceed to (2)
2. We are doomed

The chances of it happening twice in a row are slim to none.

But we have been going through these slumps like in the SEC tourney where we simply could not get hits/runs. Glad to see Curiel and Monster step up but we have got to produce runs especially when you see the glaring LOB number. I don't know what LR has left pitching wise, but if we can't hit the bottom of their pitching staff, then frankly, we don't deserve to win the Regional!

Agreed. We must hit early and often tonight. Put our foot on their throat and never take it off. No complacency tonight.

Perhaps Jay could pull the pitcher before giving up 3 walks IN A ROW.

So many people hate Jay and I just don’t get it. But to me this is his fatal flaw. Doesn’t know when to go get the ball.

Evans has been a walk an inning guy for a while now. That does not inspire a ton of confidence.

Walks, plus not driving in more runs with the bases loaded. The 2 things combined.

I am still so deeply concerned about Shores. I was 100% confident in him and he just absolutely lost a month of quality pitching when he could not find the strike zone last night.

We seem to have a trend of out here that get in their own head as soon as they get screwed by an ump.

Shores came in an was smoking for 3 batters?

Then has a guy 0-2 and out one on the black. Ump didn’t give him the call. Could have easily been strike 3. Then same guy 8 pitches later goes around on a check swing and the ump calls it ball 4. Shores was never the same. Couldn’t find his release point.

He’s not our first pitcher who’s had this issue. We need a sports psychologist if we don’t have one.

We definitely have and use sports psychologists throughout the athletic department. I hope they had several meetings with the players today. Need to re-focus.
