Only two things can happen. We have a phenomenal season ushering in a new era at QB OR the O experiment fails and we have a new HC in 2019. The new coach would inherit a loaded roster with an experienced QB

O will have another 3-5 loss insignificant season. Just enough to keep his job.

IMO, the only way O gets fired after next year is if he has a Johnny Jones type season. If Alleva fires O, he's basically firing himself. I'm talking a 3 win type of season.

Orrr we go 9-4 again with closes losses and our admin retains everyone since, you know, 9 wins ain't bad.

Won't happen. 9-4 isn't good enough now that Orgeron showed us he's a liar

Man I wish that were true, but every decision our admins have made (with regard to the football program) since the night les miles was carried off the field in all his glory has left me with no faith whatsoever that they are committed to winning.

There is no way our administration cleans house if we go 10-3, 9-4 or dare I even say 8-5. They are satisfied with mediocrity and its fricking sad.

I'd be fine with either.

My ultimate fear is the third option which is a 7-5 type season which would force the LSU administration to pull the plug on a new coach who is clearly not getting it done but has not completely tanked anything quite yet. Bleeding out slowly is the worst case scenario, and given our talent level the most likely I think. tanking hard at this point with what we have on hand is really hard to do...

A new coach isn't possible. Space Cowboy is adamant that O will be here for 10-15 years at least.

Really don't see this happening. With what happened with the OC situation, I think O accelerated his time to show results by a year.

I wish I could believe that but everything since Miles was fired shows that the administration is happy as long as the team is profitable. There are some who believe LSU can be more profitable by NOT making a championship-caliber program their number 1 goal. There are some owners of pro teams that believe the most profitable teams (not teams with the most revenue, but the most profits) are those that are "just good enough" to keep fans interested. Someone (maybe Alleva) decided that hiring O would give LSU the best chance to do that.

If my theory is right, O will probably be allowed to have 2 losing seasons before a change is made meaning he'll likely play out his current contract.

Some things could change that, including steady agitation by the fans but culturally LSU fans are used to settling for "just good enough" with the hope (without real reason to hope) that maybe LSU will beat Bama next year and make the playoffs.

None of us, under any circumstances, should entertain any talk of O's contract being extended.

Or we go 8-4 / 9-3 and go to a shitty bowl again. Knowing that if he fires O he loses his job, Joe continues to let O destroy LSU, board continues to see profit and let’s Joe continue to be our AD.

Almost assured that O will not be fired after 2018 unless the bottom completely falls out.

our administration announced loud and clear that they don't care about winning titles or even competing for titles. you can't be committed to winning titles and then hire a 55 year old career dline coach that has never in his life proven he is qualified to run Kentucky's defense.

well, I hate to tell you but the odds are that neither happens and we end up winning about the same number of games as we did this year.

the O experiment

this phrase is so idiotic. if hiring O was an experiement so was hiring Saban and Miles. neither were uber successful before they came to LSU. O will either work out or he won't but methinks it will take more than 2 years to discover that. sorry

Orgeron doesn’t get the leash those coaches got since his hire was sold on continuity and immediate success.

You don’t get to say “he’s a new coach, he gets a long time to see if it’s a success” when immediate success and continuity along with having the best coordinators and leaving them alone were literally the hiring justification.

You also can’t credit him for what he did as an interim, and then not count that time as his coaching. Essentially he’s already coached 2 years.

wrong.

both saban and miles had had success at a position above position coach.

come on pops.hiring a proven NFL DC/ top 10 finish coming off sanctions isn't the same as hiring a 55 year old career dline coach.

hiring a HC that had turned around a down and out program isn't the same as hiring a 55 year old career dline coach.

surely you can see the difference

I wish you were right about only two possible outcomes.

But I don't see either happening.

Unless he literally has a losing season, they won't fire him until his contract is up. I see this all the time, saying that he doesn't get a leash because he was suppose to win right away. I think that may have been the case until we realized how thin we were in the most important positions. I'm the same as everyone on this board as in the way I felt about the hire. I wasn't a fan, but I'll support no matter what. To actually see which way this program is going, I think he needs until the end of his contract to see what he does with the guys he recruited. (Unless he has a losing season, of course. That's unacceptable no matter what.) I want to see what our team will look like with solid depth on the O and D lines and I think we are slowly building at that. People just truly don't realize how big of a deal it is to be short at those positions. You can have all the 5 star play makers you want, if you can't block, put pressure on quarterback, and consistently stop the run, we will remain mediocre. I guess I'm just an obtimistic person but I don't seenus falling like everyone wants to believe.
