Give J Jeff His Due

I recently had the privilege to spend some quality time listening to Jordan Jefferson wax eloquent on a variety of subjects, ranging from the Tigers chances in 2011 to matters of the heart.
He was seated two tables from me at Chimes on a Tuesday afternoon, engaged in playful give and take with a group of J.Jeffs (the moniker used by his on campus fan base). I was surprised and pleased by his knowledge of football, in particular the intricacies of the LSU two minute offense.
Although I could not make out every word, it sounded as if JJ has mastered the majority of Coach Miles’ offensive battle plans, a fact that cannot be attributed to any LSU quarterback since Matt Flynn.
The whole experience made me realize that the Tigers may be best served by putting 2011 in the impressively large hands of Mr. Jefferson and allowing the young brute Mettenburger to learn slowly and methodically under JJ’s tutelage. His knowledge of the system and experience under fire can only prepare the understudy for HIS big day on the stage. Who wins? Tiger fans. That’s who.
For those haters who unfairly criticize JJ’s leadership abilities, simply hearken back to the Cotton Bowl video (you know you have it saved). With LSU’s pride and reputation on the line, and the team seemingly melting under the intense pressure of the national stage, JJ grabbed the team’s proverbial facemask and gave it a hearty rattle, finally earning the admiration and respect of the team and coaching staff while throwing his name in the hat for the 2011 Heisman race.
Get those BCS Championship tickets on order now, folks. New Orleans is going to be rocking in January 2012, and Jordan Jefferson will be the straw that stirs our drink. Le Bon Temps Roulette and Geaux Tigers!

4 total yards against McNeese as the starting QB.
He's earned everything he has received in that game alone.

He will get his due when he performs consistently on the field during the season, and not a minute before.

I once watched Peyton Manning throw 6 interceptions in one week. You cannot allow one game to influence you so negatively.
I could do the same thing by pointing to J Jeff's extraordinary 2010 performance against Ole Miss, therefore declaring him the next coming of Matt Mauck.
J Jeff is LSU's third most winning quarterback of the modern era. He's thrown for more touchdowns than Jeff Wickersham.
Please treat him with the respect he deserves.

Perhaps you are not old enough to remember Jeff Wickersham making a shambles of SEC secondaries.

Scouts has him ranked as the 23rd leading Heisman contender going into 2011 and the second best quarterback in the SEC

Lester,
I don't think he's being sarcastic

I think that's what he was lacking — a little motivation," Peterson said of Jefferson. "I think he was a little lackadaisical because he knew he didn't have anybody behind him

He will not win the Heisman

So we should let the starter be the one who SPEAKS the best while hanging with his boys at Chimes?
Great idea
Thanks for the idea JJ, but no thanks!

Expect Steve Kragthorpe to make some adjustments that allow J Jeff to showcase his talents.
The gentleman was one of the most recruited QBs in all the land coming out of high school. His occasional struggles were likely a result of lazy receivers and a poor offensive coordinator.
It has been widely reported that Miles had some significant disagreements with Gary Crowton. Supposedly the two came to blows during a post game cocktail following the Tennessee near-loss.
With greater stability at the coordintor position and firm direction from Coach Miles, J Jeff will show the world what's it like to represent Tiger Nation with pride and panache. I think most of us can agree on that.
