This is a selfish group of guys. It’s all about him not his team or teammates. And he’s a fricking freshman? frick him.

I mean, we likely sold him on exactly what he wants to do while recruiting him.

That’s what the TE position is. If he wants to be a pass catcher, chance to wr. He’s not built to be a TE at the next level anyway.

The down side of having a roster of 4-5* recruits is that they don’t know how to handle adversity. Some of these guys have never lost a football game in their lives and don’t know how to respond when things get tough. Now it’s solely on the coaches for allowing a ship to sink with this much talent, the talent we have are a bunch of divas.

we also didn't use the TE well this year like we did in 2019.

He’s got the most targets on the entire team with marshal gone, if we didn’t have 2 freshman QBs I’m sure his yards per reception would be better

Maybe so but times change. Is this year an anomaly? Let’s hope so. Regardless, 2 games left and he wants to quit? Jesus. These kids are primadonnas. He hasn’t earned the right to quit.

Thad Moss was more of a blocking TE than a receiving TE

And that blocking made an undrafted free agent have one of the best season for a TE in LSU history. Now put that attitude on a player with the skillset of Arik Gilbert and you got a Travis Kelce/George Kittle/Gronk on your hands.

If he wants to be a WR then make him a WR don’t make him a TE.

Lastnight I posted a text pic from my source who plays on the team that Arik wants out cuz he wants to play more of a wide out position.

The kid doesnt want to be a tight end.
Seems like news is picking up on it more so this morning.

good receiving TEs are much more WR than blocker these days

That's probably because not even the coaches expected our OLine to block this poorly this year. If our OLine wasnt so bad then I'd venture to say we wouldnt need him in that role of a blocking TE as much.

this discussion isn't about his usage rate in the passing game

Gilbert is 18. he could have easily had a better year than Moss last year if E didn't change our offense from Brady's, but he would never be on that GOAT level as a freshman. now, in 2 years as a 21-yera old junior? maybe

The best TE’s in the NFL are at least good blockers. They may not like it but they understand to be the best you can be at that position you have to be able to block. If he doesn’t like that then move him to WR in the slot. The same mismatches occur.

Agreed, but physical beast like Gilbert need to learn that game. You think Gronk complained about blocking?

Fools and their money. He's still not a complete TE, especially not deserving of the kind of contract he was demanding.

How did that deal work out?

They split Gilbert out a lot.

My guess is they sold him on being mainly a receiver and once the switch to Finley happened he had to block more.

You could tell he didnt like blocking

And LSU will have a football team in 2021 with someone else playing tight end. Hopefully someone that actually realizes football is a team sport.

It appears he doesn't like getting hit by the big boys.
Maybe he knows his limitations. He was hurt in an all star game.
It appeared he was gimpy after a big hit in the Alabama game.
A man has to know his limitations.

i agree. he is a true freshman. under normal circumstances he'd have 2 years to develop into that

our offense was a shite show and our team was a bigger disaster. expecting an 18-year old to be Kelce in the SEC is just expecting too much

yeah, if he never developed as a blocker by his junior year, then i'd agree there were issues. he shouldn't even be playing, though
