Press conference after press conference. Radio show after radio show. Orgeron sounded the alarms for re-stocking the LSU lines. He knew LSU needed help both long and short term. So he responded by signing nine players in the trenches (4 OL and 5 DL). And if you are looking for what O and staff prioritized when it comes to linemen just look at this:

2018 Line Signee Size

Height ....Weight
6 foot 3 ....350
6 foot 3 ....335
6 foot 7 ....331
6 foot 3 ....326
6 foot 6 ....310
6 foot 3 ....290
6 foot 6 ....275
6 foot 4 ....275
6 foot 1 ....262

Average: 6 foot 4, 306 pounds

I have read that the little guy on the list is actually bigger than his listed weight. I think Scott of Dandy's had even said it this morning in his practice review.

Better Know a Newcomer: Badara Traore

quote:

But he wasn’t done yet. Newly hired Tennessee coach Jeremy Pruitt and new Tennessee... something... Austin Thomas, set their sights on Traore, bringing him to Knoxville for an official visit. Trepidation swept over LSU fans as it looked like Tennessee may have a legitimate chance to sweep in at the last moment and sign Traore.

Interesting quote about Austin Thomas. I heard that Badara was only visiting Tennessee with a couple of his teammates just to have some fun at UT's expense. If true, Austin was trying to screw over LSU.

Recap of video in the article:

quote:

One of the things that really stood out about Traore’s JUCO OL signee brother, Damien Lewis, was how well he moved for a big man. Similarly, Traore is an exceptional athlete all the way around. You can tell from the way he gets out of his stance to the way he moves on pulls and traps... the athletic giftings are all there. If he fails, it won’t be because his athletic talent didn’t measure up.

quote:

In fact, his lack of physicality is probably my number one concern about him. I love athletic lineman, but I also want a 300 pounder to simply dominate players of much smaller stature. So when I see Traore pull and get a hat on LB and only manage to kind of push him out of the way, I’m not blown away. It’s not that he’s a liability in the run game, but put it this way, if the game is on the line and you need three yards, you probably aren’t running behind this guy.

That said, he may actually be a really great fit for what the supposed new Ensminger offense is to be. Traore looks exceptionally natural in pass pro, keeps his base well, uses his long arms to keep defenders off of him and looks like a dominant player in that role.

quote:

Assuming Charles is healthy and Cregg doesn’t get creative, I think Traore’s rotational depth. Based on size and recruiting rankings, I thought I’d much prefer him to Damien Lewis, but after giving them both a look over, I think Lewis stands a much better chance of being a great player for LSU. That said, Traore has immense athletic gifts, so if Cregg can uncork that physicality, he could easily assert himself as one of the five best OL on the roster.

High End: Starter and high draft pick.
Low End: Fails to crack the 2-deep
Realistic: Rotational depth that may get some starts in a pinch

In addition to zero CBs and zero QBs.

Texas signed seven high rated lineman and also got qbs and dbs. Herman is killing it at Texas.

So at first you wanted me to get all excited about Coach O bringing in the #1 JUCO OT, then you link an article saying that realistically he isn't even going to start. Get your stuff together man.

That Traore/Thomas/Tennessee thing was pretty big like 4 months ago. Do you seriously not recall that?

This is an oxymoron.

It is totally disingenuous for O pumpers to point to signing linemen as a reason for the below-average recruiting ranking. It first assumes that linemen are somehow ranked lower than other positions and then assumes that a coach can't sign linemen without also signing other positions of need.

I honestly don't want you to get excited about anything. Just the thought seems kind of gross.

It is the writer's opinion. He may be right and he may be wrong. He does state that if LSU passes the ball more that Badara is a better pass blocker and may start. Again an opinion but it is something to think about.

Posts like this are reason most people visit this board.

Fact based information about team.

The fact it bothers many of you so much should tell anyone without an agenda something.
I say it often but it's fricking sad and pathetic.

Did you seriously not read what I said about what I remembered hearing about the visit?

Why is reading comprehension so horrible on this board?

I have a new appreciation for BeeFense. He was obnoxious in his defense of Les Miles, but he didn’t have a non stop PR campaign for the man. Geez.......

Totally agree

It will be so great watching these fricks continue to defend his ineptitude as a head coach.

The excuses will be next level creative this year.

Preview:
-Ensmingers oxygen machine crapped out so he was lightheaded calling plays in the 4th quarter.

-Field Goal kicker should have never missed from the 2 yd line on 3rd down in the first place.

-Bad bowl of gumbo during pre-game meal which is why Orgeron wasted that timeout.

-Orgeron: "The fans love Dave Aranda so much, I decided to let him call plays on offense this week"

Sure, how about the words of O himself?

quote:

Right now this is the lowest ranked LSU’s been since 2005. What do you need to do to get back?

Let’s see what happens with this class. We have some defensive linemen and offensive linemen that are very good. I trust my rankings. I chose this class. I trust my ability to evaluate and develop better than anybody else. I’m not going to trust anybody else’s evaluation. Now, we could have had a higher class. I understand. We missed on some so-called … guys. To get two of the best receivers in the country, that’s something we wanted to do. To get five defensive tackles, signing 8 of (top) 10 in Louisiana, we’re proud of that.
