Was there another statement or press release where this was stated? I didn't see this in the original.

I could do without the ethics lesson from Will fricking Wade. The irony is delicious.

I’ve been a Wade supporter since he came on board. But In this statement alone, he 1) acknowledges his white privilege 2)calls for more to be done to combat injustice due to white privilege. If he truly believes both then he is acknowledging that his whiteness, alone, is part of the problem. What’s the remedy here??

Dear Lord, help me; I'm actually having to agree with Lester Earl on something basketball and Wade related.

But how does him admitting that he cannot begin to understand what it is like to experience racism in our country or what it is like to be black have anything to do with admitting "white privilege"? He is stating an obvious fact. Stating that he knows what it is like or trying to empathize in any way would be the incorrect statement and one that in my opinion would be wholly disingenuous.

People in general, regardless of race, gender, creed, sexuality do not expect others to empathize or feel their plight. What they want is to be heard and for you to understand as best you can so that you know what needs to be changed or approached differently. Hell, even people who have experienced discrimination may know what it feels like to be discriminated against; but it still doesn't mean that they know or can empathize with a person who experiences discrimination for a different reason, as discrimination comes in all forms and fashion.

In this situation, like many, the saying from Seven Habits..., "seek first to understand, then to be understood," is very appropriate and what I feel Wade is saying in large part with his statement. As a society, we would all be much better off, not perfect, but better, if we stopped and attempted to understand where others are coming from and what they go through before rushing to judgment and action.

The statements are most likely prepared and written for them.

And neither do you!

Who insists that race be added to government forms?
Why?
Who has the advantage when trying to gain acceptance to a prestigious university? Orientals?.

It would be interesting to wait six months and ask the coaches making these statements for specific thing they have done to follow thorough on these statements and watch them shuffle uncomfortably and deliver a bunch of empty platitude withou giving any real concrete measures.
