The rematch talk is generated by CBS which just had 20 MILLION VIEWERS!
Well Gary works for CBS and CBS doesn't have the rights to the NC game so I doubt they care at this point.

Coompletely different scenario. We wouldn't have lost at home in OT. People would want to see what we could do on a neutral field.
Eh not really, if we would have lost to Bama at home in close game we would want a rematch..just human nature

I think he's right on. If LSU and Boise St. are the only 2 undefeateds, you give Boise a shot (especially if Georgia makes it to Atlanta).
But, I agree with Gary D. Boise should get their shot if they are the last team standing with no losses besides LSU.
So, I guess now it'd be better if UGA *does* win the SEC East. That'd give Boise more legitimacy and lessen the chance of folks clamoring for Bama.

How does LSU have more to lose in a rematch for the title than Bama does?
An undefeated season (if we get there with one), against an opponent we've already beaten in their yard......

We need to focus on finishing strong. We still have 4 games left. UGA and Arky will not be a walk in the park imo.

I agree with this message, and for the rematch.....the NCAA will never allow it to happen.
Posted on 11/8/11 at 8:49 pm to ole yeller
If you think other conferences think the SEC is in bed with the NCAA and the BCS, the rematch will just reinforce that notion.

Said it before in the thread a few weeks ago, I hate rematches especially for a MNC. The original winner has everything to lose and the original loser is being tossed a bone. Emotionally it is very difficult for the original victor to maintain the original level of intensity from game 1 to game 2, it is human nature to subliminally let down, and Bama would be even more jacked for payback.
Well said and totaly agree. I can still remember the 1960 Sugar Bowl.

You don't. It's the idea that in a scenario where we would have a rematch, LSU's reward for going into Tuscaloosa and beating The University of the Damned is to have to go and play the SEC championship game and risk everything on that game while The University of the Damned gets to stay home, rest, and gameplan for the BCSNCG.
Aren't we undercounting the scenario where LSU loses the SEC title game and still plays for the title - a la OK in 2003?

Not that they would be right, but if we lost in overtime at their house in overtime I think they would have more of an argument but not much. I really think it would be unfair to have to beat them again.
What would you rather given these scenarios
1. Beating Alabama at their house, winning out (being crowned SEC champion), playing bama in the dome and losing. Bama crowned national champion with 13-1 record.
2. Losing to alabama at their house, winning out and missing the sec championship, playing bama in the dome and winning. Bama is SEC champion and we are national champion.
I would much prefer #2, and thats what bama woudl get rewarded with for losing. Even though it would be a controversial win, at the end of the day we could tell everyone to suck it, we got the ring. #1 seems like a fricking horrible road, filled with constant bitching and angst after we lose forever, with bama fans telling us to suck it.
I guess I'll give you the #3. We beat them twice.
Obvious choice is obvious. We agree to play in the BCS, and I have confidence we beat them again, but we have more logic than the BCS system to see whats right or wrong.

Conferences mean something. This game meant something. In my mind some other team should get a shot at LSU... LSU will have to go to Atlanta and risk it all... Alabama won't have to."
Paul: "What if Oklahoma State and Stanford lose? Does that mean Boise should go?"
Gary: "Yes. The best thing for the SEC would be for LSU to beat Boise 50-3 then that 9-6 game would be as immortalized as the 10-10 Notre Dame Michigan State game as a great game for the ages... otherwise it's only a great game for the SEC.
I would personally like to see somebody else play for the championship. They [Alabama] had their shot."

The BCS formula was changed after 2003 to make the polls have more weight and make it MUCH harder for this scenario to repeat itself. Unless we would stay in the top 3 in the polls after a loss, it would be very hard for this to happen again.
Because of the change, the Harris and Coach poll voters now decide at the end of the season who they want in the title game. 2006 and 2007 are definite proof of that.

Does anybody remember what happened the last time LSU faced Bama in a National Championship game?
We won the title in baseball in 97.
But...here's the deal with that. They destroyed us that year in the regular season. That's what made that game so great for LSU, and is the epitome of why I don't want to face Alabama again this year to give them that luxury.

That's not true at all. I said, as well as many others, that the game was the game. And the loser didn't deserve another shot.
Come on man!!! Be totally honest with yourself. I call BS on that, I know for a fact, that had LSU lost that game I would be pulling for a rematch...LOL

I think Oregon would be more deserving of a rematch than Alabama since they didn't lose to LSU in Autzen Stadium, they lost a de facto road game. Of course the championship game would be a de facto road game too.

I'd love to see LSU rematch...if there were a way to play them AFTER the BCSNC. That's why I'm very much looking forward to getting those guys in tiger stadium next year. However, my reasons for not playing bama again this year are:
1.) I want this team to beat as many different teams as possible this year, and reduce any doubt that they are the best in the country.
2.) I don't think any team should be able to claim a national championship after splitting a series 1-1, having one less win than the other team, and having the luxury of completely skipping their conference championship. Even with a split series between LSU and Bama, LSU would have accomplished far more.
Boise needs their chance this year, if OSU and Standford can't make it.
