I haven't gone anywhere and I've replied directly to him more than once. What more would you like me to do?
I still think the Reveille sucks. They have always thought they are "the best" but when the editor relies on this site for additional information, I'm sorry I can't take it seriously.
That, combined with my direct experience with photojournalists, reporters, and editors, during my time at LSU still results in the fact that they are not all they are cracked up to be.
Earlier in this thread, I applauded Nick for having an open door, as I stated this was not the case when I was there.

In the number of interviews I did, only one of the at least 15 I did was I quoted correctly and the information relayed by the reported factual.
Totally understandable to be bitter about that, and it's a problem we have often. One bad hire easily ruins the paper for a number of people, and because we have a new staff every semester, these things happen more than anyone would like.
I apologize for having a bad experience with a Reveille reporter, and I can assure you we've implemented a few policies to help prevent such errors.
And I totally see where you're coming from about other media outlets -- I guess in my mind I don't really consider this message board as an "real" media outlet (though the reporting on the home page certainly is; and good thing Carl Dubois is still at it!).

Yea, you just made a big deal out of nothing.

NP... I appreciate the fact that you use TD as one of your sources. This certainly isn't the "Be all" of LSU sports but it does represent a potpourris of different opinions on LSU sports and traditions. I've seen things here you won't see anywhere else. Although, there is a ton a douchebaggery to weed through. IMO, I know that Songy, GG, and even ESPN analysts have alluded to certain things on air that would only have been released from this board.

It's not like he is stealing from Tigerdroppings written articles. He is using a message board to facilitate communication between himself and possible sources. Once he locates sources and gathers their information I'm sure he would try and verify it. Completely legit form of journalism IMO. I don't know anything about journalism fwiw, just my 2 cents.

Nick, I appreciate your response. I'm glad things have gotten better.

Go around campus on Saturday and ask some older people who are tailgating.

As a working journalist (and Reveille alumna), I promise you that asking for input from rabid LSU football fans for a story about LSU football traditions is pretty legit reporting. It's also pretty brave, considering the flamers around here. Remember that Nick is on campus. He doesn't have access to as many long-time fans as he could find here, since he's mostly surrounded by 18-24 year-olds. So, maybe he's looking for an older, wiser opinion. Maybe a bad choice of venue if you're seeking the latter, I'm afraid.
I can also assure you that journalists rely on other media to help report stories all the time. 98% of what you see on TV news comes from the reporting at a newspaper. 90% of what you read in the paper originated from the Associated Press or from a press release/conference. The kid's just doing his job to the best of his ability.
So, keep it up, Nick, and let me know if you need a lead on any internships for you or the Rev staff.

It wasn't just pledges when I was there. We all dressed generally in blue blazers, ties, and khakis.
Say Huh? All?
When was this, when you were there, TriumphTiger?

Okay. There you go. Reasoned response to Nick's reasoned responses.
Nick, way to keep to the high ground.

So this board now has PC police? I expressed my frustrations from personal experience.
Nick has to take the "high road" in this situation. If the editior of the reveille was on here talking shite then we've got other problems. If I were to talk to nick in person I would express my very frustrations I have in this thread. I'm not a candid person and for my time there, the door to the basement of Hatcher was locked.
Ill say it again. I appreciate nicks efforts to change the quality of the staff. Perhaps had he been at the helm then, I wouldn't have the same opinion. But as the current leader, he is going to be held accountable for all crits past and present. He knows this and it was evident in his responses.

Fraternity guys - yeah. I'm sure not ALL ... of course not. In general, yeah, the Greeks dressed up.
I was there from '88-'93.

Easily the best place to start for the "additional sources." Maybe ask a student in one of those special garbs that have been around for a while for the origins, might meet one that knows and is sober enough to tell you

Ahh, okay. I never wore a coat to a game the whole time I was there. That was in the 70's -- I was on the "Zonker Harris" plan, though -- 70 through 77.
Jeans and tennies. Shorts for hot weather.
I don't remember tailgaiting being quite so organized or prevalent then, and it was really tailgating, not nearly so many tents, tables, etc.
More house/apartment parties. I actually lived in South Stadium my sophomore and junior years, and a bunch of us gave/sold blood and used that $30 to pitch in for a run-down apartment on Nicholson just outside the gates for a 3-month rent during football season. The party started on Friday, we rolled back to the dorm on Sunday afternoon.

The Reveille is a joke. Nobody reads those shitty articles, they only do the puzzles

In the 70's alot of students did still dress up, not just the frats, but it was fading very fast. Surprised you are not doing something on the traditions of the school before home games - panty raids on Thursdays before the first home game, drinking beer at the Keg (if I remember the name correctly) next to the cafeteria in Hatcher. The "Band" parties sponsored by various off campus bars on the Friday before home games.
