Honest question. Is 23 pitches a heavy workload? I mean, MLB pitchers go three straight games for most closers. Is this not okay for a 20 year old?

Not really. It depends on how much he actually labored in those 23 pitches. They were spread over 2 innings, so he should be okay. This is the right call
