Something has to be wrong with Delpit. He is missing some fairly easy tackles.
I think that is deceptive. When he runs thirty yards across the field to catch a guy and gets a hand on him, you say he missed a tackle and overlook the tremendous athleticism it took to get there and slow the runner down.

Yes, that is definitely the old paradigm...I started to definitely question that premise sometime around January of 2012, and I think the direction the college game has taken has borne out that that simple premise is no longer wholly true.

LSU gave up 409 passing yards to Texas. The 409 passing yards Texas put up against LSU was THE MOST passing yards Texas has had all season. And remember, Texas also played La Tech, Rice and Kansas this year.
LSU gave up 311 passing yards against Florida. Mighty Towson didn't even allow Florida to pass for 300 yards.
LSU gave up 418 passing yards against Bama.
Hell, LSU gave up 38 points to Vandy which was the most points Vandy has scored on ANY opponent this season. And just for the sake of comparison, Vandy only scored 24 points against Purdue.
No disrespect but LSU has a good offense, but they don't scare me at all. Seems like every average to good offense they play takes their defense to the woodshed.
Never mind the fact that you only fail when you lose the game. However, if I'm not mistaken, LSU won every one of those games.
Not to mention, that Ohio State has only played teams with hardly a pulse.

Marcel Brooks is about to get his first start. Let Justin Fields know he’s coming and he ain’t backing down.

Ohio State relies heavily on it's running game. Fields is only throwing about 23 passes a game. If they line up against LSU, fields will probably have to pass 40 times, which would completely throw them off what they want to do offensively
Their running game and O-line are superb....Fields hasn't passed that much because he is only playing half the game...They are beating their opponents by 52-8 average.

Of course, it is obvious that the best RELATIVE defense will win the game since it successfully held the opponent to fewer points,,plus possibly adding points of its own via fumble recoveries and/or interceptions for TDs.
So far in that regard LSU D has been successful. But ignoring the absolute achievements as measured by points allowed and eyetest (missed tackles, missed assignments, e.g.) could result in the kind of complacency that leads to an unwanted loss down the road. Balance between OFF and DEF, such as exhibited by OSU in its victories over socalled "patsies" like ranked Cincinnati and Wisconsin, should be every team's goal!

F'in OSU moron.
Texas was up 24-0 at half and 38-0 after 3 on La Tech --- think they were still throwing?
Texas was up 38-0 after 3 on Rice.
Now, the UT KU game did go to the wire. Ehlinger had 399 yards. They also rushed for over 100 more yards than they did against LSU.
Florida beat Towson 38-0. Think they were chucking the ball over the lot in the 2nd half?
I will give him that OSU's defense looks good this year. They have yet to give up 300 yards passing and may not have given up much more than 200.
However, we just played the (formerly) "likely Heisman winner and number 1 pick in the draft."

And held him to 50% completion percentage.

We'll have plenty of time for this the first week of 2020.

Pick six and CEH fumble at the 1. Don't put those on the defense. That would be giving up only 24.

Total points or yards is a terrible indicator of how well a defense plays. If our offense is scoring quickly, then the other team is going to have more opportunities for their offense. Points per play, or points per possession is a much more accurate indicator of how well the defense is playing.
LSU is 35th in opponents points per play
LSU is 46th in opponents passing yards per attempt
LSU is 15th in opponents rushing yards per attempt
Ohio State is at or near the top in the above mentioned categories, but we have a better strength of schedule, so you have to factor that in.

That won't be the case when they match up against playoff teams that have balanced offenses.
Let's be honest. Ohio St. is a very good team, but they are untested. Wiscy is the only good win and everyone knows that they are one-dimensional. Stop Taylor and they can't do anything. That's not the case with LSU, Clemson, Bama, Oregon, UGA, etc.

Does that really make it that much better? This is Vandy we’re talking about. 24 is still way too many.

Nothing in my post compared LSU to tOSU. We were talking about passing yards vs our defense. All I said was teams playing from behind throw the ball more.
You REALLY wanna make an argument against that well known fact? Idgaf how many pts Ohio state gives up. Maybe their defense is better. It has nothing to do with the conversation we were having.
