Does this take into account automatic conference champs and highest G5 team?

Not how it works. P5 Conf champs then one at large G5 then universal at large bids. I think it was Mascona who applied the new format to the old era and came up with 6 appearances.

I’d like to think we’d beat Arkansas in 2010 with something to play for - would have loved another shot at Auburn.
2006 would have had a shot; maybe the extra couple of games in 2011 convince Les to switch something up before the inevitable rematch, which would have at least been legitimate.
Wonder if 2015 bounces back after the Bama L with everything still in front of them.

You have to be top 10. 5 conference champions: mid major gets one and acc or big 12 most years won't both be on top 10

Just being ranked 12 doesn’t automatically get you in the playoff
An upset in a CCG could knock the #12 team out and the highest ranked non power conference gets in.
