Un-fricking-believable.

Mett was terrific in 2013 with the benefit of Landry and Beckham.

But all three of them were remarkably pedestrian in 2012.

And you're talking about 2011 . . . when Mett was still learning the LSU offense.

It shouldn't be startling to suggest that Mett was probably better prepared to run LSU's offense in 2012 than in 2011. For the record, both Jefferson and Lee had higher QB Ratings and Completion Percentages in 2011 than Mett had in 2012.

But no, you stay steadfast in your belief that the BIGGEST mistake of Miles' tenure was NOT starting Mett in '11.

I remember T-Bob getting pancaked in the Auburn game. Thing is...no one laid a hand on him on that play.

I have said it here a bunch of times. The BIGGEST mistake of Miles' tenure was NOT starting Mett in '11. I think the team formed allegiances with Shitty QB A abd Shitty QB B even though Good (soon to be great) QB C was chilling on the sideline.

The question is what happened at halftime in the locker room, not what happened before the game. If you think no one on that team was mad and there weren't emotions of all kinds like crazy in that locker room at halftime in the biggest cluster frick game of the century and LSU history, then I really do have some beach front property to sell you in Atlanta!

Part of my reasoning for suggesting the jumbo FB/TE role (mostly TE, with some spot duty at FB) is because T-Bob did have some issues on the OL. But, the guy's career is over. He gave great effort with LSU. I'd prefer to give him a fair shake, and talk about the things that he also did well. And he did do a good job of getting to the second level and taking out LBs. His struggles on the OL were mostly getting overpowered by bigger defensive linemen. When he was on the move blocking LBs, he was much more effective -- he would have been doing more of that as a FB/TE. Plus, I think somewhere in the 260-280 range would have probably been a much more natural playing weight for him. He likely would have played with more explosive power in that weight range, and generally, would have probably been in much better shape overall.

That depends on how you define "remarkably pedestrian".

I would not describe Landry and Beckham as pedestrian in 2012.

(I'm not making a point here about the QB argument.)

I would. they had flashes here and there, and you def felt better about them post-bye week (when they seemed to catch the ball more consistently), but they both were pretty mediocre. 2013 on the other hand...

You guys are so obsessed with the past you can't enjoy the things happening right before your very eyes.

They is a large fan base that's more afraid of losing to Bama that enjoy watching a game.

In 2007, by fourth quarter of LSU-UF game I thought that LSU did its best - punch for punch, tooth for tooth. I was already happy with the performance. The players had laid it all on the line. The win was icing on a cake/game that now lives in LSU lore. I watched that game without any trepidation. It's just a game after all.

Hey tbob what happened in the locker room before 1-9-2012?

Directly from T-Bob's AMA on Reddit last year

quote:

I don't think your going to like what I have to say, however it is the honest truth. Nothing out of the ordinary happened the night before the game. I understand why it seems like that absolutely cannot be the case. We beat 9 ranked teams, we beat the Orange Bowl, Rose Bowl, and National Champions that year. We won every game by at least 10 points with the exception of Alabama and nine of those came against ranked teams. We set school records for largest margin of victory against multiple SEC opponents. Had we won the National Championship we could have arguably been considered the greatest team of all time. How in the WORLD do you go from this to not even crossing the 50 yard line??? I do not know. Yes, Alabama had the best defense I have ever played against (I think almost two deep played in the NFL) but that is still no excuse for not being able to do anything. There must be a reason… and on the surface there appears to be one. Because we suffered this terrible loss, combined with the drama with my Dad and Les Miles in the press conference after the game, and topped off that myself/Russell Shepard/Jarrett Lee didn't play a single down in that game rumors started to swirl that there had been drama in the week/night before the game. None of them are true. Me and Jordan never fought. I didn't stage a revolution to try to get anyone subbed in. I've heard a 100 different stories of what supposedly took place. Honestly, your guess is as good as mine. I went into that game fully expecting to play. I knew I wasn't starting anymore (got pulled the last four games following a personal foul against western kentucky) but in the other games I was still filling in at all the three interior positions as a rotator. The fact that I didn't play is still one of the most shameful points of my career. Everybody wanted to win the game. The coaches stood to gain nothing by losing and if I didn't play that means that they flat out didn't think I could help them win. That bugs the hell out of me because I think I had proven to them that wasn't the case but that apparently I was wrong. I didn't get to touch the field during my final college football game and I will never be able to get an opportunity like that back. It will always bug me but thats just life I guess. Losing the National Championship like we did was like watching a life time of work evaporate before my eyes. To work so hard and be so close to achieving literally every goal you had set and then to fail so spectacularly will annoy me for the rest of my life. But, all in all I take positive memories from LSU as I had some amazing and truly unforgettable experiences both at the school and in Tiger Stadium.

I completely disagree. In fact, I would not describe them as pedestrian at any time during their LSU careers. Those guys were always capable of big plays, whether it was special teams or in the passing game, or in the running game, which they didn't do a lot of at LSU, but they had the capability to make plays in the running game. You have to have opportunities to be productive.

But again, this doesn't mean much without a definition for "pedestrian".

I had this in mind as a probable response to my post. Quick - can you name a drop (not a pass breakup by the D) by Landry in 2012?

I was at the Arkansas Game in 2007. Miserably cold night, north wind, south end of the upper west. Miserable may be an understatement. I was disappointed in the outcome but still proud of the team for the season they had despite what I thought was the end of our hopes for a Natty.

They had people walking out the stadium complaining about Miles. And trust me when I say that most were definitely not alumni. I was and am still taken aback by some of the so called fans of this program. I guess I'm just a Pumper, though.

I thought the 07 Arky game was a day game.

I think you are correct, I get my facts off sometimes. Sun was going down by the end of the third OT for sure (not DST and late November). I remember my wife complaining a lot toward the end, probably why I remember it as a night game.

I also remember McFadden and Felix Jones going off at just the right moments for Arkansas. It was disheartening.

This. Jarrett Lee was mediocre at best and JJ was a good mobile QB but nothing special.

Mett should have gotten the start in Arlington against Oregon.
