any suggestions on a time we should try to meet or where to go if we have say 5 or so cars and want to try to be close to each other??
Be on campus about 8 or 9am and should be ok.

As far as parking, I've never had to pay to park anywhere. As long as you get to campus before 10 or 11 am, you should have no problem finding a spot in the parking lot near Kirby Smith (I think it's called Hart Lot). Once that fills up, they usually let people start parking on the band practice field. It's just as close as any of those "lots" (someone's yard) you'd have to pay to park in, and I trust it a little more. If you are going to campus to tailgate, you're going to be walking anyway, and at least by parking here, you're going to pass some pretty good tailgate spots on the way to the stadium. You also get to walk past the band hall where the band warms up before marching to the stadium. Leaving from here is also much easier than anywhere else on campus (at least from my experience). Just take a left on Highland towards downtown, and there are ways to get on I-10 either east or west. Of course there's still traffic, but it shouldn't take more than 30 minutes or so to get to the interstate (compared to a lifetime if you try taking Dalrymple).
I also recommend stopping by some of the shops on Chimes street just north of campus. There's a t-shirt shop named Storyville where you can create your own customizable game day shirt, as well as the Chimes, Cane's, Raul's, several bars, restaurants, etc.

last year, one of those guys was charging people $20 to park in my friends yard on geranium last year.
my friend was out of town and told me to park there and that it would be fine.
I show up and this guy is charging people, and they are giving it to him.
I told him "i'm not giving you ANY money"
and he just gave me this look
then he said he was going to call the cops because I was on his property.
I just laughed and walked off.

Chelsea's under the Perkins Road Overpass is some amazing food as well.
Should probably check out Raising Cane's while you're in town as well. It's just chicken fingers, but it was all started in Baton Rouge.
If you make it onto campus by 9, you should be fine. I'd say parking on River Road is probably your best shot, unless you can find a spot on Parker near the South gates.
After the game, don't plan on getting out right away unless the stadium emptied out some during halftime. There's only 4 main roads that get off campus, and the LSU/BR cops do a lackluster job at best of getting traffic moving.

I would stay in NO Thursday and Friday night and hit the French Quarter.
On Saturday morning I would leave my hotel by 7:30 and drive into Baton Rouge (approx 75 minutes), getting off at Dalyrymple and parking near the LSU law school.
I would walk to Louie's (ask anyone) and get a great breakfast.
Then I would head over to the Parade Grounds and the Indian Mounds and party my arse off and mooch off of Tiger fans. Also near the Assembly center, I might eat some jambalaya or meat pie.
I would make sure to be at the Indian Mounds two hours before gametime to see the team buses and Tiger Band go down the hill.
I would follow the band into Tiger Stadium (holy shite-look at that place) to watch pregame , grab some food etc. The Tiger band and those four epic notes, the pregame Tiger video, Calling Baton Rouge/Louisiana Saturday night etc....
Then I would sit very quietly for three + hours in shock and awe as the LSU Tigers emasculated Appalachian State, making sure to keep my eyes on the ridiculously high amount of gorgeous coeds and smokin hot milfs dressed in purple in gold.
After the game I would be careful to divert my eyes from the scoreboard and walk straight to The Chimes where i would eat and drink until they threw me out.

it all depends on your age.
18 to 22
bars: start at walkons or chimes. plenty of eye candy then go to tigerland.
21 to 30
same starting places works. but go downtown or chelsea's area on perkins.
30 and up
can also start at walkons or chimes but might just like a restaurant like mike andersons more. some others on her would have better restaurant info than myself. could also go out to perkins row(not to be confused with perkins road) for restaurants and places to drink after. downtown works as well. bars like cadillac cafe, ivars, chelsea's are close enough and would be fun.
as far as tailgating.
all ages:
start early. my plan when i going to multiple spots is park close to walkons. this puts you close to tons of tailgating and close enough to the stadium to walk. after the game you can go to walkons to let the traffic die down.
ONE LAST THING. every year new people on here think it is funny to say "go to splash". it is a gay bar. if that is your thing then by all means. but otherwise. it was kinda funny the first time someone said it but damn it is old now.

I'm an old guy. The cool thing about Chimes is you can be 20 or fifty and fit in just fine.
The most important thing is all the cool stuff by the stadium in the hours leading up to game time.

If you don't want to go to chimes or anywhere around campus or after your epic but kicking you want to go to hotel and watch the late game or ice your balls do yourself a favor and park along river road or the other road going in. If you park in a lot you could be 3 hours getting out. For some reason LSU cannot grasp the concept of traffic directing. You can use the basic directions on LSU sports.net but I have yet to see those direction followed like they say. Park along one of the roads going in and walk. It may seem like a long way but it is worth it becasue after the game you pull out of your spot and you are on a main artery out.

For God's Sake ... Help these folks out! They're in Cajun Country and need some good eats, but they're Mountaineers used to eating road kill and other varmints, so they want to know where the good Meat Stores are
Get them to stop by Jerry Lee's on Greenwell Springs Rd for some hot boudin. Top 3 in BR.
Butcher Block in Addis (across the river on the west bank main river road) for Sausage and good stuff for grilling. Also has boudin and first rate meats and stuffed chops.
If you're gonna have a cookout, this is THE STOP

Duvic's closed this past week. It's out-of-business. I never went there, but Frank Duvic owned the greatest bar in the history of Tigertown: The Bayou!
Duvic did not close to my knowledge. A grill inside uvic's that was new closed after a month of business, but Duvic's is still open.

I like your idea of starting this thread, but we're probably going to need a little help from the admins to keep the thread legit (like by deleting the posts that recommend "Splash" as a place to entertain your children while in town, etc...).

I know I for one really do appreciate it. It is tough to travel that far and spend time trying to find what is quality entertainment, trying to enjoy it and getting a feel for an area.
I don't know how many times I have been fooled into going into gay bars only to be gang arse-raped and then sent on my way...It generally ruins my whole weekend...
OK just kidding...1st paragraph is sincere the 2nd just giving you guys a chuckle on Sun. morn.

I thought that anyone could freely park along the curbs of taxpayer-funded streets (provided that there are neither parking meters nor "No Parking" signs there)? Since when did private property owners have the right to charge you to park on the streets?

you might want to include tips on New Orleans too, since alot of people will probably be staying there
