For all those butthurt about this CA bill

Please wake up, people.
The reason why this bill was passed and why other states are making the push is to force the NCAA to CHANGE their regulations so that they are not as restrictive. Why? Because there are thousands of NCAA sanctioned collegiate athletes, not on scholarships, who are severely affected by the following rule:
All this talk about open and free market for buying players is absolute nonsense - this will NEVER happen.
Since CA is passed and now Florida is making the push, the NCAA will be forced to make changes to their current regulations - what that will be, I don't know, but it certainly will not be free market capitalism.
QUIT BEING THIS NAIVE!
In the end, the NCAA will still have the say in "how much" athletes can receive - and you can bet it won't be a lot.
My prediction: In 10 years, college athletes will be complaining that they can't receive enough pay.

When we start handing out paychecks, the beach volleyball ladies should be first in line.

Funny, none of the "experts" agree with you and some of them know a lot more about this than you and most of us.

Right...
There have been many attempts over the years to persuade the NCAA to lighten up on these 100% restrictive rules, and they've all been denied. Now, state governments are forcing the change by saying "if you don't want to work with us then we don't have to follow your rules" - and that's a good thing! Because we don't live in fricking Russia or China!

Who are you referring to?

The NCdoubleA$$holes need to go away.

If players get a cut...they should contribute to the cost of running a university and the costs of all their sports programs

only if they take down that stinking net and put up a few brass poles

My problem with this whole thing is it's only going to benefit the most popular players in the most popular sports. All of the unknown players on the random college sports teams are going to be left out of this entirely. Who is going to try to market a product with the third string lacrosse player?

I do not see why college athletes should be getting paid...no one has come up with a good reason.

I don't agree with this. But it's definitely time that they realize they aren't almighty God over college sports. All these states are really after, is that the NCAA be a little bit more supportive of the athletes - ya know, the people who make their money for them.

This is the naive part that I'm talking about. Where does anything say "players will get a cut"?

Another naive part. Who do you think is at the core of the multi-billion dollar collegiate sport industry? THE PLAYERS! How much money would LSU football make if they had no players?

How much do these kids expect to make off of their NIL without using the NIL of their school? And believe me, the school will want their taste of any use of their NIL!

THE PLAYERS!
disagree, it's the program, the names and faces change at a maximum of three years, the program keeps rolling on

Naive part #3
A lot of athletes, like swimmers, golfers, tennis players, wrestlers, etc. would like to be able to give lessons on the side or be a trainer in their sport to earn cash on the side. Those athletes cannot currently do this while using their own likeness - let that sink in.

How in the world are you are going to get endorsements if you can't even get a college scholarship... that makes no sense.
Open your eyes, read what you just posted and realize this is about attracting the Lebron James and Fournette types to UCLA with big paychecks from Nike and Wheaties. It has nothing to do with non-scholarship athletes.

What I've gathered so far:
Your take is 100% correct and everyone else is stupid. Solid discussion.

Okay. What happens when a quarterback is getting paid a lot of money for something and his other teammates aren't getting jack shite? Think that might cause a little division in a locker room? Especially when most of the players in that locker room aren't going to be playing professional sports and able to cash in later.

They are getting paid by getting a free college education. The rest of us have to take loans out or frick some old lady to pay for college.
