“LSU got squeezed”

Every body pretty much got what they wanted. LSU got miles off their payroll for 5 million less, Miles got 1.5 million cash, and Kansas got miles with no buyout to worry about.

Seems like a win, win, win to me.

Maybe Les passes on the Kansas job without the LSU $1.5 buyout. He always had the $6.5 in his pocket to not coach.

Sorry guys LSU got played here. Once again, Les and his master agent beat LSU in a negotiation.

I think That’s the case

Joe seemed butt hurt and said “no incentive to move forward” with the buyout

Les was saying he wasn’t going to take the job unless he got a settlement. Joe took a sure $5 million over a possible $6.5 million. Was Miles bluffing? Who knows. What would you have done? Taken the 5 or gambled for 6.5 and risked zero? I think Joe did right this time.

No brainer.

Charlie Hanagriff on the radio on Friday presented the buyout $ differently than what I thought or what most are saying. His example was the remaining $6.5mil was offset money in the case Les got a new job and was to be paid by LSU. His example was, if Les got Kansas job at $2mil per year, LSU would be on the hook for the $1.5 so KU would only have to pay the difference of the contract after the offset which would be $500k in his example.
In this case, it was beneficial to both parties b/c LSU gets to reduce the amount paid to Les by $5mil, and Les comes out ahead b/c he still gets his full amount from new job, plus the 1.5 from LSU.

Did Hanagriff just have this completely backwards?
I thought (and keep reading) any $ made by a new job would reduce what LSU owes him by that amount.

Link to radio show. Talks about it right at beginning.

Deals can fall through. LSU at the time did the right thing. They were thrilled miles was ready to deal. I honestly thought he wasn’t going to get another job so LSU went safe and locked in a 5m gain at the time.

Exactly. Someone doesn't get screwed in every deal. This was a win-win.

From LSU perspective the thought of just cutting all ties with Les with no more payouts was the end game for LSU.
It took two years but at least LSU is done
