I agree with you Chad504boy. The safety of the citizens of south LA should come first and I am as big an LSU football fan as you will find.

For those that work all week tomorrow should be the final preperations day and for some it should be evacuation day. Instead LSU is being very selfish and not considering the well being of the citizens of this state.

I think Chadboy is right.
Jindal said he wants evacuations to begin Saturday (LSU Gameday) and those that are actually smart will probably leave Friday
You are an idiot. Friday? Where the frick you gonna go dumbass. The cone is still 500 miles wide dipshit

I realize in BR it's just rain, but it's not all about LSU and a football game.

Ha...not if some of the model predictions come true. Many people in BR will be in for a rude awakening if the storm passes just to their SE.

If you want to contraflow out of south La., how about you plan your trip to cruise through Baton Rouge at about 4:30 on Saturday. The interstate will be free from traffic because LSU will be playing.

LSU isn't stopping you from doing anything. You can evacuate any time you want.

Then I 55 has nothing to do with the campus of LSU and the game being played.

do not underestimate the trickle effects traffic has on itself. One does not become congested then suddenly free in a moments notice little one.

Is LSU going to buy back my tickets?

I really need to get stuff done tomorrow for the safety of my family but LSU figures the football game is more important.

hat people on this board don't understand is that even if the eye is not forecast to be here until early Tuesday morning, hurricane conditions could be here by Monday afternoon. Tropical storm conditions by Monday morning.
_______________

We realize it. Do you realize that if you evacuate towards B.R. you are evacuating into the current projected path?

If Contraflow starts at 6:00 a.m. Sunday morn that gives 24 hours to get out before the first hurricane conditions appear. If it starts at midnight Sat --- long after the game will be over and traffic cleared --- that gives 30 hours.

Some of the evacuees will have tickets and can move on from there.

Most of the officers working the game will not be working contraflow. That was made clear in a news article a couple of days ago. I do not have the link --- google it if you like --- but we have at most 60 state troopers working the game. The rest are local. With Contraflow ending in B.R. they won't be working it.

There is nothing insensitive about wanting the game to go on. There is no reason both cannot happen. By the time the game is over and traffic clears Gustav will just be leaving Cuba. No one will know where it is going. Half of the forecasts say it could stall off the coast, meaning it would not get here until Friday. We will watch and prepare, but ordering Contraflow Saturday is not necessary, as Jindal said yesterday.

I evacuated from Plaquemines Parish 18 hours before Katrina made land fall w/ the eye of the storm crossing my home and got out of harms way. I'm tired of all this BS that we were not properly prepared for Katrina, how do you prepare not knowing the levees are going to fail and flood NO? We as Louisiana citizens, state and local government and COE failed far in advance by not rebuilding our vanishing wetlands, barrier islands, cypress swamps and by allowing shabilly built levees. It should not be difficult to evacuate the people from NO and surrounding areas in thirty hours prior to the storm. To cancel a game that most Louisiana citizens have been waiting for for 7 months three full days before a storm might arrive is chicken shite and sends a message that our government doesn't believe that we can take care of ourselves. Move the disabled out two days in advance and let the rest of us, capable of taking care of ourselves, make our own decisions about when we'll leave. Don't cancel a game 72 hours in advance because you are scared of what might happen.

Instead of calling people dumbasses for thinking the smart will evacuate Friday-Saturday, sit down and think for a second.
People in LA have this strange thing called RELATIVES. They will leave Friday-Saturday to go north and meet relatives. Why wait until Sunday to leave? The effects of the storm will be ON Louisiana come Monday morning.
Just as many of you guys that are bitching about the game being postponed or cancelled; the same amount of people are bitching about the amount of traffic and hassle they will go through to leave their home which runs a huge risk of being flooded just 3 years after being practically destroyed.
The debate over who will be our starting QB and Keiland Williams' fumble problems will be here after the storm... some people might not be as fortunate about having their homes.
Have some courtesy.

contraflow on saturday for a tuesday hurricane landfall is moronic! how the heck are they going to know which way to contraflow when the hurricane is still in freaking Cuba or the Yucatan? if we hit the panic button like this every time a TS flares up in the Carribean, we'll never live normal lives. play the freaking game and then deal with the possible hurricane after.

Common sense should not give way to CYA.
1) anyone who want to leave "now" CAN DO SO.
2) you could start contraflow traffic on Sun Morn. and have plenty of time.
3) while some models are forecasting LA, others still do not do so.
4)why spend millions of tax payers $ if there is no need....
Preparations , Yes! Panic, No!

You're making the choice not to go to the LSU game. LSU is not making that choice. If you wanted to, you could make your storm preparations before you leave for the game, then head out to the game, and continue on North afterwards. Don't tell me you don't have time. This storm has been in the Caribbean for about 3 days now. Why are you waiting so late to prepare?

what if the gov't feels they truly need the extra time for preparations? Can you fault them then?

Yeah right. I can't even keep an ice chest in my truck without it getting stolen during the game. You think I am going to leave everything I evacuate with in my truck???

And for those saying "30 hours is plenty of time to evacuate" or something to that effect...
Ask the people who weren't truly prepared or smart enough to leave for Katrina and Rita if they would love to take advantage of an extra 24 hours of evacuation. They would all say Yes.
Look just because people were stupid enough to stay behind for Katrina and Rita doesnt mean we should follow the same model of evacuation for Gustav.
Let our state actually be proactive instead of reactive and allow for early evacuations and less congestion in big cities like Baton Rouge.
I know everyone on TD.com is a registered genius but I say this time, we leave state matters in the hands of the state governor.
