LSU is currently ranked 29th in defensive rebounds per game.
In the games against decent teams, the other team usually gets around the same number of offensive rebounds as we do.

As mentioned we have been terrible at defensive rebounding, which is causing us to play way more in the half court on offense. So far this season I don't think LSU is very good in the half court on offense, how can we prevent that? Getting the defensive rebound and taking off and trying to steal a couple of buckets. But it all starts with actually finishing the possession and getting the rebound.
Yep.
LSU has looked more comfortable when they can get out in transition. The defensive rebound is the first play of transition offense.
I agree that LSU has not looked good in it's half court offense. Particularly against zone defenses (except for the second half vs. UCF). I would say LSU should want to do whatever is necessary to increase the tempo/pace of the game....except maybe not tonight. FSU likes to play fast because of their athleticism. Allowing great athletes to be athletic benefits them more than forcing them to execute in the half court.

Not a student but I will be there tonight for my first game in the McMahon era. Let's ride.

Gross rebounding numbers is not the most informative stat. LSU's FG defense has been pretty good. That means more missed shots = more opportunity for defensive rebounds. The better stat to focus on is defensive rebounding %. I.e. what % of defensive rebounding opportunities a team is getting. In that category LSU is getting less than 70% of defensive rebound chances. That's 271st in the nation.
Put it this way. If an opponent misses 40 shots and LSU grabs 25 defensive rebounds that's not particularly great because in that situation you still allowed 15 offensive rebounds. However, if a team misses 30 shots and you grab 25 defensive rebounds that is MUCH better because you allowed fewer offensive rebounds. The gross number of defensive rebounds are the same. But the impact of a higher rebounding % is much greater because you are allowing fewer second chance opportunities with a higher rebounding %

That's because LSU has been a pretty good offensive rebounding team in their own right. 54th nationally in offensive rebounding %. That's helping to make up some of the ground they are losing on the defensive glass.

Alabama St., NSU & Charleston Southern games are throwing off those stats. LSU rebounded terribly in those games. Stats in the type games are meaningless.
Against Kansas St, Pitt & UCF LSU did fine on the defensive glass.

That’s what makes this matchup so interesting imo. FSU has very similar athletes to us so it’ll come down to execution and taking care of the ball most likely. Big test and potential stepping stone for the Tigers tonight.

No.
But you better move quickly if you want a spot. The prices on the secondary market are skyrocketing. The lowest priced available ticket now sits at $2.00. That's up 100% from yesterday where the cheapest ticket was $1.00!

I can't tell you how pleased I am with what I've seen from Chest. He's active his motor never stops and he's physical. He's the dog I've been waiting on here since CMM got here, he makes a difference and gives us something we just have not had the last 2 plus years.

I am very impressed with how Chest has taken advantage of his opportunities. He wasn't in the rotation until Fountain got injured and made the most of that opportunity cementing himself in the rotation. A few games later with consistent effort he is in the starting lineup.
It is really nice to see someone so athleticly gifted also be the "lunchpail" kid.

Yep.
Just think if LSU would have had a guy like that last year....

I want to be diplomatic about that, but we just have not been tough enough.....and not even close really. For me you can talk about all the other things and we do, but the lack of toughness has been the biggest issue in my mind the last two years . That rears it's head not only in rebounding but screening, fighting through screens, fighting for loose balls, basic defense in the paint holding position, and on and on.
Chest brings pretty much all those things and I love it.
