Finley’s high school coach “Someone is getting blasted Saturday”

The Advocate reporter interviewed Finley’s high school coach Hank Tierney. The reporter noted of Saturday’s game, “ If LSU wins, it would prove to some LSU fans that Finley was never up to starting ahead of the again-injured Brennan or Max Johnson. If Finley were to win, the criticism of Ed Orgeron letting him slip away would be relentless.”
Finley’s high school coach is a long time friend of Ed Orgerons. Tierney’s response to this scenario playing out this Saturday was, “Someone is getting blasted.” The Advocate reported that Tierney spoke with LSU’s new OC Jake Peetz two days before Finley’s decision.
Peetz tried to persuade Finley to stay, telling Tierney that Finley was just “a little behind ” both LSU QB’s and “had a chance to make it up in the fall.” The reporter noted that TJ Finley felt “coach Peetz was sincere” in implying Finley had as good an opportunity as the other two QB’s to win the starting job in the fall.
My take. All LSU fans will get their wish Saturday, the best LSU QB will be decided on the field just as it should have been in fall practice. If both QB’s play great Saturday, regardless of the score LSU wins, just like when Ohio State QB’s transfer and succeed, their image is enhanced as an elite QB school. . Everybody will know LSU is QBU.

You’re the same guy who said Lindsey Scott Jr didn’t get the same opportunity because he was black. And he would start at any SEC school
I’ll never respect any of your takes.

I'm glad he has confidence in his former player. Should be a fun one...... whoever gets momentum early and gets up will probably hold on to win.

You cried Lindsay Scott didn’t get treated fair. He was just a bad division 1 qb

Two polar opposite quotes. Guess HS coaches just aren’t as media savvy. This whole interview is not good.

I've always felt that if Finley refined his mechanics and footwork and got more comfortable playing under pressure he would be a very good QB. He just needs a bit more time to develop and good coaching.

If I owned a lumber company and crucified you over every one of your bad takes, I’d run out of wood!” LOL

If you look TJs highlights vs Gs…a ton of over throws….Still.
With even a SMALL bit of running success. We should win this game.

Although you’re once again making up lies, A bad take and a racially motivated tamper tantrum are not the same.

I think the hype this week is all for nothing and that Finley won't play much, if at all (unless LSU is pounding Nix).
The insertion of Finley in the GA St. was kind of a last ditch effort by the HC to get some kind of spark out of a terrible team. Finley himself said as much in an interview this week, as well as Harsin. Harsin said he had changed RBs, receivers, etc to no effect so changing the QB was all that was left....for that game.
Still, Finley has NEVER started in a true road environment. Let alone one that is his former school from just 6 months ago. The emotion running through him would be tough to control. First start. In a (mostly) full Tiger Stadium. Trying to perform well not just for his team, but in front of family and friends, and also in an effort to show the team on the other sideline they made a mistake by putting him third in line for the QB job.
There are some positions in football where big time emotion can lift a guy to play a tremendous game. QB probably isn't one. He the guy the team needs to be the most composed. I think starting Finley could be bad all around. (1) You run the risk of Nix checking out mentally; (2) If Finley has a bad game then you may be in trouble going forward.

Sidenote, serious question . Who was the last good QB who came in as a freshman and was developed at LSU ?

I think it’s more likely that even if LSU loses, Max will have better stats than Nix or Finley. Whoever starts. Auburn will have ran the ball down our throats.

Never before has the nation seen such a matchup of QB's like Finley and Johnson. This battle will put LSU on the map as a QB powerhouse for decades to come

Ask aTm how their QBs look.
