UGA may have something to say about that.

No they don't. Florida owns UGA. Are you high? That's a lopsided series. UGA's 2 SEC c'ships don't hold a candle to UF's two (2000 and 2006) and BCS title.

quote:

UF has only been really good for the past 2 years.

Are you talking in terms of the last 5 years or so? Zook came in and wrecked 'em a bit, but they were still "good". Florida's best team of this decade didn't even play in the SEC c'ship and that was the '01 squad. Hoe TN beat thme in Gainesville that year is still a mystery.

quote:

And my only problem with the permament opponents issue is the fact that in determining divisional champs, overall record is considered. Therefore some teams have an advantage to win their division.

It's been that way even before we had divisions. Case in point: 1988. We tie Auburn for the SEC title, as both of us had one SEC loss. We also beat them head to head. Auburn had a better record. Guess who got to go to New Orleans and who had to settle for the Hall of Fame Bowl?

quote:

but I still think we got robbed in 06

yes, but we can blame the refs at Auburn all we want...we choked when it came down to it. We weren't aggressive and played not to lose, instead of just taking it to Auburn. We win that game and it doesn't matter about UF. We'd have gotten them again in ATL and that would have been quite an interesting affair. Imagine a conference c'ship where both teams have a shot to be in the big show.

I am not talking about the refs at Auburn. I am talking about the fact that we had the same West record as Arkie, and beat them head to head, and yet they were given the title as the best team in the division and chosen to represent it in the SEC championship.

How about we play all 11 teams and no out of conference games, say take your BCS and shove it Sign your own TV contract then at the end of the season... East 1 vs West 2 & West 1 vs East 2 doublheader in Atlanta and the next weekend winners play in New Orleans (Rotating venues each year)talk about BCS/NCAA getting nervous oh ya...I think that would bring full blown playoff

Oh I got ya, Vol. Well, you might have an argument there, but I think they deserved it in '06. Hell, they were talking about sneaking into the NC the week before playing us and had they beaten us and Fish doesn't fumble that punt vs. Florida...hmmmmmmmm.

Despite the embarrassment against USC, Arkansas handled up on several teams. They get a gust of wind to squeek by Vandy, but they skulldrug Auburn on the road and gutted Tennessee and Ole Miss about as bad as you can.

You can't really compare the historical significance of Auburn-Georgia and Alabama-Tennessee to the Florida-LSU matchup. That said, if Florida and LSU continue to be premier programs, the SEC will have no reason to discontinue the yearly meeting.

By the way...

...what a stupid statement.

Bama p0wned the Vols last year. Should be a good one this year, too. TN is my sleeper.

Tennessee should have a good team. However, they have to play at Auburn and at Georgia, those are two road games in which they will likely be more than a touchdown underdogs. They also have to play at South Carolina, a team they struggle with (really just a coach Phil struggles with). They do get Florida at home, and the Third Saturday in October at home.

UT beats UF at home. I think they win 2/3 tough road games. Very possible they repeat to ATL.

In any event, there will be three teams with 10 plus wins in the East, imo.

If Tennessee beats Florida and wins two of those road games, they're looking at 11-1 and a possible national title. I don't see that.

not trying to be stupid..just displaying some hatred for bama...parity is what makes the SEC..i understand that.

they better be glad they have florida at home...it might be a not close game instead of a straight up blowout compared to if they played in the swamp.

UT will lose to SC like they do almost every year...the auburn game shouldnt worry them too much...auburn chokes at home at least once a year..UT could be the beneficiary this year...God knows they never fricking choke against us...at home or on the road.

they will play UGA close on the road imho.

bottom line, they lose to florida, UGA, and SC....AUB is a toss up.

they will be lucky to finish 3rd in the east.

Auburn certainly isn't a sure "L" for them and UT owes them for 2004.

Florida's not the same team on the road. UT beats them. That's the game they want most.

True, UGA is on the road for the Vols and is the better team, but they were last year, too...and we saw how that went...remember the year before, too? UT owns UGA in recent years.

SC, like Auburn, is anything but sure. True, TN could lose this one easily and Spurrier knows how to beat Phil. I like the Vols here.

UT beats Bama for some payback. UK and Vandy have no shot. UCLA won't beat them out in L.A.

I think TN has a very realistic shot of going 10-2/11-1. They don't have the easiest schedule...not as tough as UGA's. They have a somewhat proven qb, two very good running backs, acorp of VERY capable and talented WR's, and a very solid defensive backfield. I predict that they score a lot of points. They're the ones getting no respect right now...it's all UGA and UF. Give me the Vols in a first place tie with UF, but Gators will be ranked higher in BCS.

They easily finish 3rd or better. SC would have to beat UGA or LSU to have a shot, but it certainly could happen. Rule nothing out in the east...esp now that UF has taken a big step back.

It's not perfect but I like UF as a rival, keeps SOS high.

Imagine a year we played USC, UK, and Vandy, our SOS would be crap. On the othe hand we could play UF, UT, and UGA in the same year also, which would be brutal.

Since 2001, UGA has finished ranked higher than UF 5 out of 7 times, and since 2002 only UF's 2006 season have they finished higher.

But, since the head-to-head record is 2-5 against UF, the presumption is that UF is ahead of UGA.

Yeah, that 2000 Florida team (10-3) was so much better than that 2005 Georgia team (10-3) and that 2006 Florida team (13-1) was so much better than the 2002 Georgia team (13-1).

we should rotate every 2 years with 3 East teams each rotation. It's retarded how we do it now. In this stupid system you can play at a school for 4 years and never see every SEC venue.

I don't like it. This is basically a manufactured rivalry.

quote:

something never ever changed due to Aub/UGA and Bama/TN.

Those are the two matchups that these teams wanted to keep every year and this is why we have to play Florida every year. Screw that.

quote:

1) All matchups are pretty even. It might be different if, say, State had to play FLA every year.

They are NOW but when they drew this up LSU was way down and Florida was way up. They didn't intend that matchup to be "even".

Also, what happens if a certain team declines in prowess, or a certain other team rises in capability? Then your "even" matchups go out the window.

Florida gets screwed more than anyone.....

Annually, they get the toughest schedule in the nation.

Having to play GA, UT and SC in the east; LSU from the west, and then adding a possible MSU, AU, or UA is just too much.

Then they have to play FSU whom will be good down the road.

Good point about Florida. However....remember that when the permanent matchups were set...Florida was the best team in the league and LSU was one of the worst.
