There is definitely a difference in time. Unless you drive 90-95 on the bridge without having to stop at all for traffic. Then it might be about the same.

Just do the simple thing and take I-10. If you get to Juarez you've gone a bit too far. Circle back on I-20 through Abilene and that'll get you there.

I-10-HWY190-I-49

Staying on 10 to laffy adds a bunch of unnecessary miles and time.

Tell you what, you give me a 30 minute head start from the Lobdell exit off 1-10, we both do the posted speed limit, and I will be waiting for you when you get to the northern Opelousas city limits on 1-49.

Take it from a Houston resident, avoid the Houston alt route unless you absolutely have to. I-45 will be a nightmare due to the college schedules for UH, TA&M, plus the LSU faithful, not to mention the yahoo's that live here.

Option A is by far the best...there are good amounts of 75 MPH on both I-49 and I-20...

one word of caution...do be careful on I-49 when you go through St Landry parish, as it is a hell of a speed trap...

I-10 -> Lobdell Exit, head north -> Highway 190 -> I-49 -> I-20

This is the correct answer.

I have taken 71 from 190 and gone to Bunkie and gotten on 49 from there. About 3 people use that highway now so you can go about as fast as you want.

The state trooper I met on that road last January disagrees with this.

This is the only way I go when going to Alexandria.

Driving the basin is for fricking idiots.

If you get to Dallas, you've gone too far. That's the shippy side of the metroplex.

The problem with I-10 to Laffayette is if you get stuck on the bridge over the Atchafalaya. I would take 190 and if its bad you have the 71 option. I refuse to get stuck on i10 after one time about 10 years ago. Sat still for 5 hours in the pouring rain due to a chemical truck over turning

Skip 190. I have done this drive many more times than I wish to remember. I have timed the trip going both ways and taking 10 to 49 to 20 is the fastest route. Plus, the odds of you getting a ticket along the way are far less.

Taking 190 saves at least 30 min.
